Our motorhome use is mostly in the period of mid spring to September/October. Unbelievably as I'm a pretty tight git, it hasn't occurred to me sorn the motorhome over the winter period. I have the room to keep it off a public road and to give the wheels a spin every month or so. If I do decide to use it at short notice it's now so simple to tax online.
How many of you do this?

We do! Better though if you are free to use the motorhome all year but not all of us are.

Any vehicle not in use gets immediately SORNed here!
It helps that the Postoffice is nearby and does tax 'discs'.

I don't think we've used it in November December and January, apart from a run to move the tyres.

You can SORN/TAX your vehicle in a matter of minutes or less online these days.

We SORN both vehicles whenever they are not being used for the month.

I dont sorn as I like to use the motorhome all year round.Nothing better than sitting in a warm motorhome at the seaside watching the sea on a nice sunny winters day :)

How many SORN when parked on a site for a month or more? We met a couple in Spain in early March who were waiting for 1st April to come round before they moved on. That seemed a bit extreme to me. A month's road tax is probably less than the diesel you'd use in a day and perhaps only the same as a night's fee on the site.

Always sorn once on site in spain for the winter. Car at home sorned for 3 months.
Easy done and reversed.

Yes I always SORN if I am fairly sure the vehicle will not be used for at least 2 months. Only takes minutes to SORN and minutes to re-tax online.

Also illegal. SORN is off road in the U.K. not abroad . However have seen many vans travelling in Europe especially Portugal which are SORNed

I find the MH needs a wee run every 2-3 weeks to keep the discs from pitting
So I don’t Sorn

Our Rego was due on june 1st. we sorned, because we are off the road still waiting parts to come through from Germany.

At around £10 a month I've never thought it worthwhile. Just extra hassle if you find you need to use it at short notice.
Must have a small van. Mine is 2.3 and it £20.00 per month and if I only use it for 6 months, I'd save over £100.00.
If I need to use it at short notice, I can tax quicker than filling with water

I SORN our van every winter, we get £70 back for four complete months ?. It's done on a smartphone in seconds and a cheque comes a few days later.
You can always retax it in seconds in the unlikely event it's needed ?

I forgot to tax it this April and suddenly remembered when we were on the M1, I pulled into the services and 5 minutes later we were on our way, all sorted.
Don't think we'll get fined as the data base doesn't update for a few days, and they hit me for all of April anyway ?

Always been the way. Whatever date you tax from, it's automatically taxed from the first day of the month you're in.

I do it a lot.

I run a small family fleet, we can only drive one at a time each.

If the Motorhome is not in use, usually two of the cars are not. Thats around £85 a month.

What really naffs me off, I might fly to Spain and use my UK car, kept at Alicante airport for just two weeks, on Spanish roads. But I its not worth me Sorning my UK Daily Vehicle for the part month.

So, I am using a UK Car taxed in the UK, for a month. That is either Stored off road or driven on Spanish roads, never driven on UK roads in that month. Whilst at the same time, I have to keep a Van taxed in the UK that is parked on my drive.

Then, when I get to the UK, the roads are an absolute dump. Have you seen the state of the road surface. or looked at the overgrown gullies and hard shoulders. Filthy signs, often obscured by overgrown trees.

No mh is over 3.5 so phgv tax £165 a year so a whisker over £10 a month and very few months when it goes nowhere.

Not considered it till now!

I sorned mine when we went to Australia and NZ for 6 months. I thought it would be added security...someone drives it away to a ferry and police/customs pick it up as untaxed????

I appreciate that whereas mine works out at £20 a month so it's worthwhile for me to sorn.
Isn't it better to let each individual decide rather than dismissing the cost as trivial because to some people, 10 or 20 per month is definitely worthwhile saving
