Can I piggyback on this post please. I am just renewing my Smarty plan ready for Tuesday trip to France. I asked (chat line) Smarty what If I use 12g fair usage could I buy more. They said that they do a Data add on. I can’t find any details about ot on their website. Does anyone know please.

Be aware that most mobile providers DO NOT include Switzerland as an EU roaming country ! It's very easy to get caught out near the border.

Yes you can buy extra on Smarty. I'll find the link....

Good Lord, haven't you got it sorted yet? You've been asking the same question a couple of times each year for the past 5 years. Here's the first (from April 2017) of half a dozen of your threads asking for recommendations:

I will be trying out the Tiekom 300Gb, when it arrives.

But this year used TescoMobile pay as you go 100Gb for 30.00, worked well for a 10 week trip earlier this year. TescoMobile will continue to work till the end of the year, when I'm not abroad I stop it by not buying anymore packs, next year they are changing policy hence checking out Tiekom.

Off again in September and plan on using Tiekom if arrived otherwise will resort to TescoMobile and Lebara 12Gb for 1p as a backup.

The Smarty sims restrict Eu usage to 12gb per monthly payment. You can purchase “add-one” via their app, cost is £9 for 10gb or £1 per gb. The add-ons are not time restricted. I’m currently in France and 6 of my grandkids have been using my van for YouTube access, boy can they eat up data! I also run an unlimited Vodaphone contract giving 25 gb per month. It may not be the cheapest, but it works.

Yes your right about the smarty data, I was thinking of the new EU data pass, these allow you to access all of your data plan but only for a set number of days. So many options now it gets confusing 🤷

Can anyone give me a hyperlink to the Tiekom deal as I the 150gb is the largest I can find on their website.

Sprddler and Gellyneck still not sorted !,

Thanks for all the replies but I am afraid I am still confused. I think I will talk to Tesco.

If you still have an active Tesco contract that was taken out before the 1st of August you can continue to use all your data in the EU without extra charges for two months in every four until such time as you take out a new contract, into 2023 and beyond, I changed from a rolling 30 day contract to a 2 year one in July so was really lucky.

Be fair.....technology moves on continuously. I'm sure the OP only wants an update on any better deals going compared with a year ago.

Smarty is not cheap abroad. 12GB monthly limit and £1 per gb if you buy extra.

Lebara - up to 30GB in EU. So but the £15 per month one and you can use all 30GB in the EU.

OR - buy one locally when you arrive in France or wherever. The tend to do cheaper deals for data in Europe. You can still use them where ever you go.

Following a few "vanlifers" arround Europe, many have said that their Sim Contracts were not much use anymore, especially "3" which simply sent them a text on fair usage, then cut them off !
The ones using loads of Data seem to be on older, or existing unlimited Sim contracts with EE, but they are paying much more than many of us would, as we don't get an sponsorship from You Tube.
It will get even dearer next year I fear, but then again so will most things I guess.🤷‍♂️
Good Luck to all its a minefield out there.

I've never been charged extra for using up data (93GB per month) in eu.

Not sure if it was in original contract or they've just made a mistake so I'm not saying anything 🤐

In my experience, Three have never been that great abroad. They were one of the first to start offering data in the US and EU (initially for a relatively low cost of £5 per day, but in the last decade or so it's become inclusive). Sure, you get a signal and it connects, but it seems to dump you on the worst mobile network possible with incredibly slow connections. A 4G connection is no good if it takes a minute to load each web page. Often I found I could do better by manually selecting a different mobile network (roaming lets you do this) to get a semi useful connection.

The last few times I've been abroad (not much in the past 2 years!) I switched to Vodafone and got considerably better service in both EU and US. I guess they had good deals with lots of other foreign providers? Not sure if that'll continue now we've exited...

Thanks, I’d not seen that is I thought “at home” was wired home broadband, I was looking under the mobile tab. Need to work out cost comparison between keeping Free or moving to Tiekom and switching it off and on.

Here it is: https://tiekom.com/internet-at-home/data-sim/ we have the 300Gb swim.
Recommend you email Camino Arias to set it up. camino.arias@tiekom.com
She's very helpful and will post one or more sims to you at a cost of €5 on your first monthly sub.
Cancel any time through her.
We also use Express VPN on a Firestick to watch live UK TV. Also cancel anytime after 30 days.
Good performance as the sim is Vodaphone.

PS. Tell Camino that you are a Funster.

If you get two Tiekom sims, do people activate one, & save the other in case they run out of data? Do you only pay for the one you’ve activated? Thanks!

Simply go with whomever the real experts recommend at this time (as these recommendations can change month to month)
Motorhome WiFi are currently recommending EE with Three and Smarty in close 2nd place, but look at the pros and cons in detail as EE is most expensive in the UK.

All the pro's and Con's of each supplier is here

You tell Camino by email when you want the sims activating and stopping. I've just used one from June to end of August. We will use the second one in January 2023 for 3 months and then close it down.
Simple email to Camino will sort it out.
