Which Sikaflex product to use? (1 Viewer)

I am just about to start an upgrade/change on the Moho (Bailey Approach Advance 640) Changeing external lockers/EHU/Filler point and vents from original White to Black.
Most will be replacements and a couple plastic painting but all will obviously be resealed.
Used Sikaflex EBT + before for some jobs but cant decide on this, the 512 or 221.
Cant really get a definitive answer from their website, Youtube vids of conversions or general trade.
Anyone used any of above before? and do you think it was best product or wish they had used something else?
The straight replacement EHU (but in Black) comes with a foam gasket, bin this gasket for sealant or use it in conjunction with sealant?
All views and oppinions appreciated.

A lot of folks prefer Puraflex PU40 to Sikaflex. I have used it to seal most things on my van and not had any issues with it.

Personally, I wouldn't Sikaflex them on. If you ever have a problem with them in the future, you'll struggle to remove them.
I can't remember the name of it offhand but I've used some stuff that is like bluetac but black to seal our roof lights. It's a very good flexible seal but the part is relatively easy to remove if you have to.

A lot of folks prefer Puraflex PU40 to Sikaflex. I have used it to seal most things on my van and not had any issues with it.

And at £5 odds a lot cheaper than Sikaflex assuming you need the joint strength it gives.
Euro330 it comes in both black and white so guess you could get what suits. You'll get it from Toolstation who have a branch just of Kingsway in Dundee.

Yes know toolstation, have Screwfix and sons 20% B&Q discount card aswell. Not overly concerned over the cost as it is going to prove a fairly costly excercise anyway, best product is what I am concentrating on just now. Shall investigate though. Cheers

W4 caravan mastic sealing strip sounds like the stuff you are describing.

For what it’s worth, I’d use Sikaflex EBT from Screwfix.

Yeah think thats next step. In mean time gonna try a few sample tests using Sika or Puraflex on old Fridge freezer lids and sides to see what is performing best.

I too am a fan of Puraflex (also made by Sika), however, for things like fridge vent carcasses, body skirts, window frames, roof lights, etc, I use either the W4 adhesive sealing tape (various widths), or the tube equivalent.

Thanks for everyones comments and views, however here is an update with reply from SIKA on which product I should use.
Never heard anyone mention it but sure I have seen it before.

If you were in the marine industry and keeping water out long-term out was your primary objective, it would be Sikaflex every time. Also, check out Arbo who produce a wide range of sealants for specialist applications.

I'm not a fan of Puraflex I don't like the way it drys with a pink hue.

For any item that may need removing you really don't want to use a PU adhesive better to use a non-setting butyl type sealant.

I’ve used that for fixing glazing into aluminium including vehicle windscreen on a classic car and for that it was very effective, but on balance I think the advice given by SIKA above is appropriate. There’s a trade off between good long-term adhesion and non-setting stuff, but even the latter goes hard and brittle over time.

Thats kinda what I am looking for Big 1. Having said that when used Sikaflex EBT + before it sets firmly but still very rubbery and easy to remove if neccessary. Might just stick with that as I know how it performs and know how to work with it.

Unless you are going to run the test over a ten plus year period, across a wide range of temperatures and at different levels of humidity, your tests will provide little useful information.

Take a look at Tec7 sealant....we lived aboard a boat for some years and was put on to this stuff by another sailor when replacing various seals above and below water...it remains flexible and in my opinion is far superior to Sikaflex...I use it on the MH now too...

is a sealer adhesive found in most builders merchants,
it is comparable with sikaflex, and is available in white and black
have used it instead of sikaflex and found it does everything it says on the cartridge
and slightly cheaper than sikaflex
it holds down solar roof panels with no screws, and can be cleaned off if needed
(G H Awnings use it to seal and attaching alloy strips,
for water sealing roof to awning gaps.

Stixall Extreme for me. High bond PU adhesive and gives excellent results.
Doesnt dry and crack like Sikaflex.
I believe it is used at Vanbitz.
I have used it on fitting a new electric box on the side of the van. Attaching foam pads to polyethylene boxes and re-sealing around the base of the garage where the Sicaflex peeled off!

Which Sikaflex product are you comparing it with? They have 56 adhesives and 71 sealants alone.

I worked in marinas and around boats all my working life, I have trusted mine and others safety to the strength of the bond provided by the APPROPRIATE Sikaflex product in many critical situations. TEC7 is a generic sealant / adhesive, it is in no way comparable in quality to Sikaflex.

The key issue with Sikaflex and other similar chemical fixings is that amateurs do not follow the proper instructions with regards to cleaners and primers - there are again a whole range of individual products to match up with specific sealant or adhesives and a lot of people think a swipe down with acetone will suffice - it won't.

They do, the ones that don't spoil the ship for a happeth of tar. Watch the "Building a Morello" video - I don't know if its done on purpose as product placement but I counted a box of Sikaflex five times in the thirty minute video.
