We were due to change the van this spring but delays mean it will now be around November at the earliest. I'm a bit doubtful about getting another season out of my current tyres (dated end of 2014). Tread is ok but a bit concerned about age. Will I have to go to a commercial garage to get the tyres changed or do the normal high street outlets handle motorhomes? Currently van is fitted with Continental Vanco Campers. I'd be interested in paying a little less than £130 a corner. Anyone found any satisfactory alternatives?

Did they fit metal valves? I see they have an offer on Continentals at the moment!

They left the original metal ones in place.

Edit , Just checked invoice it shows list including balancing , valves etc with total price so not sure . I checked when job finished and saw metal valves as I need them for Tyrepal but whether new not sure. Must have a look.

See this thread regarding fitting.

Here’s another thread about alternatives including what we opted for, Michelin Cross Climate

Off topic but you don’t need metal valves to fit Tyrepal sensors if that’s what you mean.

My tyres are 2014 and I have no plans to change them until they show any signs of age, sidewall splits or delaminating.

I had them fitted by kwikfit mobile and they did them in the carpark.

The Tyrepal instructions state they should be steel valve stems don’t know why but not an issue as mine are anyway.

Never noticed that but probably easier to screw them tight on a steel valve, working okay with the rubber ones though and did on the trailer that I had.

One of the tyres' sidewall has been scrubbed on the pavement (a consequence of the rear track being wider than the front!) so looks a bit suspect. The others appear ok. I've just swapped the front and rears to even out the wear.

Larrynwin, as we are in the same part of the country which depot did you use? Or did you use their mobile service?

I've just had continental vancontact eco tyres fitted at local high street supplier. Cheaper than vanco's with good EU ratings.

I live at Gorleston so used the depot at Gt Yarmouth.

In Norwich, I've used KwikFit on the Dereham Road and more recently Havers tyres who pricematched and came and fitted in storage yard along with metal valves.

Always used Havers for car tyres , always cheapest like for like just a bit tight in their yard.

Just ordered four continental vanco camper tyres from Kwik fit. Came in at £490. Asked about the valves and they said they would fit high pressure valves. Not sure if they are metal bodies.

Having just had the new tyres fitted the new hp valves fitted by Kwik fit do seem to have a metal body.

Are they cracked?
If not why not wait until Nov? Save yourself £500?

Sounds like you want cp / 120 load if your time runs out rather than tread.

Toyo observe are great tyres I have Toyo open country which are great.

My local tyre fitters charge for valves even though mine are part of the TPMS system.
When asked why they said is was a computer generated invoice and nothing they could do.
I do get a generous trade discount so still less than retail price

It looks like valves, balancing, disposal etc are all part of a package charge so not separately identified.

Recently had new ones fitted at Kwikfit.

As much as it was not my first choice, the Kwik Fit At Home service was cheapest and easiest.

A Kwik Fit van and fitter arrived at the storage site and did the five wheels while I sat in the van making brews.

If you ask them they will fit metal valves, down to weight obviously👍
