Before the next trip I'm draining the engine coolant and putting in new.
I've scoured the service and user manuals and there is no mention of what type to use. I'm not even sure if there are different types, aren't they all glycol or something?
Last time I drained and refilled a car engine coolant it was a 1256cc Vauxhall Viva ???

Anyway it's a 2014 Peugeot boxer X250 with the Ford Puma 2.2 130bhp engine.

Thanks

Several times on Wheeler Dealers they have drained and flushed the water and replaced it with waterless liquid which has a higher boiling point so works without pressurising the system. Haven't researched it but seems a good idea untill you get a leak and need to top up while out and about.

I used Prestone coolant in our Peugeot Boxer.

Product Description
Product features Prestone extended life antifreeze coolant is compatible with any antifreeze coolant regardless of color for use in all makes and models of cars and light duty trucks, petrol or diesel on the road today. Prevents freeze ups down to -36°c, overheating and boiling-over up to +129°c. Provides a silicate and phosphate free formulation for long-lasting inhibition and corrosion protection. Up to 150, 000 Mile/5 Year protection Product features this patented formula provides a high degree of performance durability and carefully balanced protection against temperature extremes and rust corrosion of all cooling system metals, including aluminum. Prestone extended life antifreeze/coolant instructions drain - draining removes loose rust and sediment from the radiator. Drain cooling system Following owner’s manual. Flush - flushing the system cleans the engine block. Use A quality cooling system flush/cleaner like Prestone super flush - fill with Prestone AF/C and water for the desired freeze and boil over protection indicated on the back of the bottle. Warning: harmful or fatal If swallowed. Keep out of reach of children. Caution: Do not Remove radiator cap when engine is hot. See owner’s manual for any special cooling system service instructions. Do not store antifreeze coolant in open or unlabelled containers. Wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.

There are usually two types , by colour red which is OAT and Blue/green .
They should not be mixed as advised .
However Prestone will mix with any other . I have used for years very good product .

I have been using Evans waterless coolant in my Coventry Climax powered classic Austin Healey Sprite for the past 8 years.
It was a expensive option to take at the time but the price has come down as the take up has increased.
Although expensive, it does last for life as the corrosion inhibitor element does not breakdown over time as normal water based coolants do which is why water based coolants need changing at set periods in accordance manufactures guide lines.
No problem topping up, as a carry a litre bottle of the waterless coolant in my classic to top up with if needed the same as I do with the Prestone coolant in our Peugeot Boxer motorhome.

Thanks for replies, next question is how much do I need? Is the Prestone 4L ready mixed one enough?

Nope, Peugeot Boxer 2.2 needs 11.5 litres from empty, so 3 tubs of Prestone 4L which will leave a bit for top ups.

I just use what ever is cheep as long as it has corrosion protection just make sure it get a good flush out and don't mix red and blue.
never had any problems with freezing or cooling even last year in Spain when it was very hot conditions up and down hills and mountains so meany complicate and look in to it to much thers a old army mnemonic
KISS keep it simple stupid is my way of doing things you can get stander coolant anywhere no big deal if you have to top up with water and cost effective
bill

I tried this some time ago in my (home built) car when I was having problems with it running hot, but not actually boiling over.

Didn't have any affect at all, but I seem to remember it costing a fair bit, I ended up fitting a larger radiator.

Prestone is a top product and would agree with Two on Tour?

There are about 5 different types. The engine is the same as in my transit. Coolant is pink OAT type already mixed 50/50.
