I intend to hardwire the dash cam in my wife’s car as she has to push the cig plug into the cig socket. She keeps blowing the fuse. I need to know what fuse the cig lighter need i can’t find it in the handbook. I will be using a piggy back system and what fuse for the dash cam? ⚡️?⚡️?? without your help???

Thanks in anticipation.

I think most cig lighters are 120w output - so about 10 amps.

But a dash cam will not be anywhere near that.

I would have though they would be less than 10w so it should need around an 1 amp fuse.

amps x volts = watts

so if u know the wattage of the camera etc divide it by 12 and you should have the amperage it will draw.

But someone who is more knowledgeable will be on soon and give you some decent technical advice advice.

This is the camera had it for 3 years no problems

10a for cig socket
15a for aux socket (same as cig socket but a secondary power socket)
5a for dashcam (it protects the wiring, not the appliance)

Thanks pappajohn
