many many years! since I was a kid
the reason for fitting a large inverter is I had a 2500w 5000w inverter which went bang using a 1500w coffee maker and the supplier said it is not man enough for it so rejected my warranty claim
cheaply made chinese rubbish then

Rough guide you will use 28 amps @ 12 volt d.c. To produce 1 amp @ 230 volt a.c. This allows for inverter efficiency and voltage drop in cables.

I'd add to that, the harder you push your inverter, the larger those losses will be too.

I phoned the importer of my inverter to check fuse size , they told for my 1500w unit it was a 150amp fuse
so I’m assuming 500w would be 50amp but lennys sizes sounds good to me
It's easy enough.....
Watts ÷ volts = amps

500w ÷ 12v = 41.66a (at full load)

To prevent it blowing prematurely a 50a fuse will do but won't protect 6mm2 cables.

Plus 15% for inverter inefficiency.
