B6995E0A-44C8-4C46-9FC1-A2FD5BD171F5.jpeg I have this private plate on retention that I was going to put on my new motorhome. My parter doesn’t want it on as she says she doesn’t like private plates.

i guess its more that she is 36 she doesn’t want the oap plate on. Haha

i just think it’s a funny one and would raise some smiles on the road.

I’ve listed it on the popular selling site! ;) Feel free to make an offer.

And the attention of a jobsworth copper too.

Jobsworth? Or enforcing the law and doing the job? It clearly does not conform to the template and is therefore not a legal plate. If the image is of the actual plate there are two obvious offences. However the likelihood of actually encountering a patrol, with the requisite knowledge, is somewhat slim.

I think the ACPO advice is vehicle defect rectification scheme. i.e. no points/fine but go to a garage and get a slip signed saying its all in order.
If you carry the legal ones with you, and youre in an area that youre not likely to be seen a lot, then an apology with an unknowing face and just change plates saying "Sorry i didnt realise officer and thanks for all the service you do" should get you out of any possible trouble.

And the 2 non conformaties are incorrect font and spacing !

Not to mention, a vehicle first registered no earlier than 1 March 2020 is required to put it on... ;)

As the years go on the more and more vehicles it can go on. Like many things that can be bought, number plates are a great investment when nothing is earnt these days from money in the bank. It can stay on retention for 10 years without needing to go onto a vehicle.

My father happened to have "222 JON" on a Morris 1100 (remember them?) and no, his name wasn not John. When he sold it he got three or four times what the car was actually worth because someone wanted the number. You didn't see so much personalisation in those days.

Undoubtedly, cherished number plates can be a sound investment. Indeed, it can be quite a serious business.

Although, it must be remembered the DVLA owns all UK registrations, and 'buying' a personalised plate is effectively only securing a licence to display it on an appropriate vehicle. There is a theoretical - albeit unlikely - risk it could be withdrawn at any time...

For example, a plate that might have been entirely acceptable thirty or forty years ago, but these days is judged wholly inappropriate or offensive. I can't immediately quote an example, but I believe it has happened. The DVLA has ultimate control.

I got nicked many years ago because the car I had just bought had the wrong font on the number plates. The font was slightly squarer than normal but I still got a ticket. Must have been a slow Sunday morning but nevertheless, I suppose rules are rules.

I've got 4 personal plates, but not 'NASHER' as the only way to display it would be illegal - each to their own, but I wont do that

So as a pilot , I settled for 'NASH FLY' whilst driving though Knightsbridge (London) late one night, a guy in a Mercedes wound his window down at the lights and asked me if I'd sell it to him!!

I also have J4 JNU on retention if anyone wants to buy it......

Sorry, they all spell w%nker to me (n)
Thats not the Funster spirit I have several personal plates and one on retention I am just about to place on another vehicle, its just a bit of fun the cost of a plate starts about £250

Totally get you may not want one or two but there is no harm and often just something personal or memorable.

I like the plate but if it was legal it would be a lot less obvious what its supposed to mean. Spaced like that it is asking for a fine and loss of the licence to use the registration, its also an MOT failure. Its not just the authorities being spoilsports but mucking about with spacing and fonts can interfere with ANPR systems.

Anyone want to marry me so I can have that number plate please?

Must be 98years old, multi-millionnaire with tremendous sense of humour, lots of energy, believes in celebacy, loves doing housework, gardening, ironing, washing... scousebird will give lessons on the latter. :)

We have a couple of PPs. One i bought many many years ago for ££s today that same plate is valued at
£££££££££££££s. No intention of selling and it was never bought as an investment, it just became available so i bought it back in the day when plates were not regarded as a status symbol. The 2nd plate was bought about 20 years ago to "match up his and her's".
