Off to France(again)!I always have two 7kg bottles with me.I use one then when it runs out switch to the second.Never use more than one when we are away for a couple of weeks.Checked this morning and can't remember which is the full one.It would appear that neither is full. One weighs 11.4kg and the other 12.4!what should a full one weigh.Have I got enough between the two??

I think the Tare weight of the empty bottle is on a stamped label near the valve / at the top somewhere? We have a single refillable Alugas 14kg bottle, saves a load of weight in comparison to calor.

I have the same problem mine weighs 11.2 but nowhere on the bottle is a tare weight, only a stamped disc at the top with 17.00 on it, does that mean when full or what?

The tare weight is on the disc in pounds and ounces, so your tare weight is 7.7 kilo.

Why the tare weight is in pounds and ounces is anybody's guess

Thanks for that, I have a few other bottles about different makes , and they are in kgs

Yep , pretty sure bottles weighed in pounds and ounces.

And while we are talking about Gas bottles....

Eurotunnel state that the bottles should be a max of 80% full for travel on their services.

Now are bottles from a supplier at 80% or do I need to burn 20% off of a supplied full bottle?

I believe the 80% principle is the same for all lpg containers. There has to be room enough for safe expansion of the liquid, which does not compress like a gas. Also a 100% filled bottle would have difficulty gassing, too little surface area plus the liquid might get carried into the regulator.

Weighed a couple, both propane, recently, and kept a record. The Calor one grossed in at 15Kg, stated Full. I checked an Argas one which MT weighed 9Kg and full was 14.7Kg, (runs my Garage Heater). And costs between £6 and £9 LESS than Calor depending on where the Calor has been purchased. It give me a yardstick to check how much is in a part used cylinder.

Calor bottles have aluminium disc on the collar. This has the tare weight embossed on it in lbs and ounces. They do vary between seemingly identical cylinders!

So do I go and get a full one or hope that two half full ones will do me.I think I will risk it!!At least I will probably come back with two empty ones!!
