I know you won’t fancy a long diatribe about how things can go wrong when you get a motorhome, so to cut a very long story short the Webasto heater on my secondhand PVC has had some ups and downs (mainly downs) since getting the vehicle a year ago. Suffice to say it has been Serviced using a Webasto service kit and I have had a new controller fitted as well, but the heater still does not work , possibly something to do with a circuit breaker. It needs a dealership or a specialist shop to have a look at it with a Webasto diagnostic tool and I wonder if anyone can recommend someone in the south-east possibly as close to Eastbourne as possible who has such a thing. I can see this being one of those long-term pita’s so keeping my cool at the moment over it as it’s giving me something to problem solve…

I priced a replacement display for the Webasto in my son's Iveco works van and I could buy three complete Chinese 5kw heater kits just for the price of the display. I've been running a Chinese unit as a heater in my garage since Christmas and wouldn't hesitate to put one in a van, might be worth just replacing the lot ?

That’s a really good idea, and I kind of wish I’d gone down that route in the first place but now I have committed money to the existing unit for the service service kit and control box. Doh 😖 I know the Chinese ones are increasing in quality every year and there is a lot of good busy reviews of them on the VW transporter forum. 👍This sounds like its a long term project now, when I finally sort it, I’ll have a warm van party….

I would check your fuses first in case one has blown. Mine is close to my Leisure battery.
Thanks, now I’m worried that it will just be a fuse and I’ve blown the food budget on it…..🤔😳😩😂

Hows your son like the Iveco?

I could have sworn I saw something on this forum very recently from a firm in the midlands that clearly specialised in diesel heaters. I took a photo of a plate giving details of our Eberspacher heater pre cicely because of that firm! will try and find where I saw the details, but it was very recent.

If it is a fuse there will be a reason for it ? My 10 amp fuse went last year (it has always used high Amps on start up) and I took it into a Webesto specialist who was brilliant, he said, Any black smoke coming from exhaust when starting up or running, I said no! He looked at diagnostics readout and said Its not dome an excessive amount of hours so no service required. Stick a 15 AMP fusr in the 10AMp fuse holder. The wiring loom can handle the extra 5 Amps without harm. I did this and it fired up and has been fine since. Its now 10 Years old and has never been serviced. I run it for a minimum of 1 hour a month and its still going great. Lucky me eh!

It's a 3 litre Daily on an 08 plate, ex council, so it's been well maintained and we got it for a decent price, but we recently had to have the diff rebuilt, which once you start looking into it, seems to be a common problem and a second hand unit was impossible to source for our particular van (really low ratio and twin wheel) I think it's a more robust van than a similar age/use Transit ?

The name of the firm is Butlerbus Technik Ltd of Lincoln. 01427 787121. They look to be genuine specialists but I have not used them myself.

Agree,my Webasto packed up four years ago,860 quid to replace. If it breaks again I will fit a Chinese one.BUSBY.

I know a diesel fitter that used to service Webasto heaters . He used to say they were a bit touchy about correct voltages. It may prove nothing but I a first check would be battery voltage at the heater on start up.

Is it trying to fire up or is it completely dead?

They are generally very reliable if you can hear the pump ticking it will probably be a glow plug problem but I had 1 that kept packing up and it was the small rubber pipe that connects from the very thin plastic pipe to the pump it was slightly over size we replaced it and never had a problem after that

Apparently it starts to fire then goes dead immediately
If it starts then fails it should then provide a fault code by the number of flashing on the green diode light. If this is not happening A simple check of your 10 Amp fuse will let you know if current is getting through to the Glow Plug.

Thank you all, trying some of this tomorrow, ……
