My water filler cap has always been fiddly and awkward but now I can't get it to lock. The key turns but it makes no difference whatever position keys in I can open it. Are these caps all the same anyone fixed one ? Is it worth replacing ?

Its this one in picture any idea where to source another the same ? Thanks

mine did the same, then I also broke one of the tabs off, bought a new one from ebay but now don't lock it, ours is under a cover, why are they lockable??

possible theft or some idiot putting something in I guess, minimal risk, if not broken I would just leave it unlocked (y)

Hi, put it in a container of boiling water for a couple of mins, don't know why but this trick always works, think it expands the plastic lugs inside it.

Need to replace ours as it has lost its springiness. It shuts but not tightly.
When going round corners with a tank more than half full it hoses anyone next to me and I am getting scale on the side of the van!

Re locking - I read boiling the cap in water helps but did nowt for mine.

Magnum motorhomes is calling for a new cap and a couple of running lights!

Let us know if it does work for you Porkster.....not sure I can get me head around that name!! ( or want to........:giggler:. )

I think a little silicon spray after the boiling water treatment helps!

Thanks people I'll order one and try the water trick let you know how it goes

Yes I did mine over two years ago and it hasn't stuck again yet. As said place in very hot water this separates the inner and outer skin of the cap so they can turn independently when unlocked. Then copious amount of silicon spray in the tight gap around the inside edge of the cap between skins.

I did mine 5 years ago and not had the problem since.

Timely post, mines just started playing up. God, must have had my tenner paid back half a dozen times now from this site, except of course when I follow "spotted a bargain ?" and I buy stuff I didn't know I needed, anyone want a Huawei R207 unopened, still in it's box

I have same prob Porkster......on 2nd one too! will try ''hot water'' trick,if that doesn't work i will leave it unlocked. So if anyone sees me out and about and wants to ''tamper'' please make sure it's wine or brandy, cheers :)

If buying a new one do not discard the old one as the lock barrels can be swapped if your keys were suited.

Remember years ago reading they started lockable caps as a few idiots found they were the right height for peeing in!!!!
I run a little WD40 off a rag,just enough to lubricate.
