This is what happened to my vehicle battery. It’s been mentioned that you shouldn’t leave it on EHU in the long term. Anyone had similar experience

Hi.
I have had them " Boil " on a lorry, but you know somethings wrong by the smell well before this stage. Never seen one this far gone unless it blew.

Looks like it has exploded! By over charging? Check your charge rate, was there much battery acid around? May have run dry.

:oops: any other damage , hope its all ok
Yes, the battery box needs replacing but there are so many wires!

Used the van last week. NEC from Devon. Started this morning to take to garage! Going to have everything checked out including solar absolute pain!

Yeh, didn’t smell a thing. (Covid!) There’s quite a mess on the concrete where I park the van. Have now check everyday for acid corrosion.

Thats awful! What make was the battery?

Lightening the mood a bit. I saw a prog about some Indians repairing/rebuilding batteries. Horrifying. Working with solder, acid, glue. lead etc....no H&S in sight. Wearing sandals.

They would put that one of yours back together.

Our leisure battery had a shorted cell in 2019. It got hot because the solar controller thought it was flat and was throwing full power at it. Fortunately I fitted the temperature sensor and it stopped before getting too hot.

Now at home I use low power {0.8 amp) battery maintainers, they aren't powerful enough to get anything hot under a fault condition.

There probably was a smell but my smell is more or less non existent since having Covid and haven’t really been out in the van since New Year.

Is it from a ducato based mh? Mine just did the same. Own fault. I allowed the battery to drain to 7v, not sure what is draining it yet, then EHU charge for a couple of weeks. Where did you source a new battery box for it. I'm struggling to find a decent 2nd hand one on line.
