Anybody going away in these desperate times we were away last week and planning on going away again next week we live in Wales and are going into England we adhere to social distancing and follow all the rules especially as we are in the vulnerable group some may say we are wrong but we want to still enjoy our travels are we being selfish

We are still going away for short breaks but not travelling far and staying in the SW region. We feel comfortable that we are as socially distanced using our motorhome as we are at home. We do not use communal showers and toilets and generally staying at smaller CL and CS sites.

Am I the only one who gives a "no"? I've had 2 nights in my MH this year, both of them as "ensuite" accommodation at friend's houses where they have no spare bedroom. I looked at going away to France, but lockdown happened; I looked at the UK but all my preferred campsites were full; I looked at non-preferred sites but realised all the things I like doing when I'm away were virtually off limits (spontaneous trips on steam railways and boat rides, visiting National Trust sites, pre-booking for meals, chatting to people on site and sharing a bottle or three of wine under a non socially distanced awning). Social distancing "dancing " around everyone as if you had leprosy and wearing that hated glasses steaming, fetid rag called a "face mask". Being a solo traveller just got a lot more challenging! Do I keep the MH for next year? Decisions, decisions..........

Yes

We are going away this weekend. We are staying at a pub in the Yorkshire Dales. We like to support small businesses and have booked a table at the pub for the 2 evenings. The pubs in tourist areas who accept motorhomes really need our support while we are allowed to travel.

Life short.
Why do you wish to possibly shorten it further by travelling at the moment.?
Not just yours, but mine and possibly many others.
This situation is absolutely rubbish right now, but unless you have far superior knowledge and data to support your actions , than those who are making these considered decisions, personally I think you should stay put and just accept what is a right Buggers Muddle, like the majority of our green and pleasant land.
Just my opinion though, not an instruction though, so don’t shoot me,thanks.

A worthwhile post, but could I put in a plea for the use of some punctuation, which will help to make posts more readable for those with dyslexia? 🙏

I think people have to make their own decisions. Not going to shoot you but a blanket no to everything is not really practical or realistic. So long as guidelines are adhered to then your Motorhome can still be enjoyed without risk to you or anyone else. Sensible choices being the key word.

We were away last weekend and had a lovely time out walking , couple of meals out.
Darling daughter coming home for a month today part work, part hols so won’t be going away as it’s a 2 berth.

Once she goes back we will think about short breaks away if it’s dry to break up the winter . We like walking but are fair weather walkers so will pick and choose I think. We have a PVC so this is the only time of year we don’t really like that big sliding door, all the heat disappears so quickly. Mind you it soon warms up. Obviously we won’t take silly risks with our health or anyone elses for that matter.

I am going away to the MH today.

The cleeaner comes today, so normally I go to the office (dungeon) in the basement, but there will be no heating on because the cleaner opens the windows and today it is v. cold here.

So I have just been down to put the MH heating on for decamping into it in 1/2 hour.

We are lucky to have a big yard and room for the MH/spare room/overflow.

Geoff

We’ve been away for mid-week breaks over the last four weeks (Blackmore C&CC site atm) and have stuck to site rules, etc. as much as we can, and our dogs love the walks......don’t they always! We booked York Rowntree site for this Xmas, via Warwick & Ferry Meadows, but it all depends on the lockdown situation in December as to whether or not we go:unsure:. Up to then, we have a few more mid-weeks planned, but watch the (ever-changing!) CV-19 situation daily........:(

NO way are we using the MH until it's morally right to visit and stay in other areas. Our favourite area is North Wales, which is virtually a no go zone for English visitors. If the police don't get you, the locals will!

No, I full time and I was in Portugal last year in September and travelled throughout Spain/France at the start of the virus and arrived back in UK in March with very little issues.
Adhere to the local rules and be ultra careful and sensible and life can carry on.

Emmm... We are booked in at our favourite north devon site for the last two weeks of the season and have been waiting for this to be kyboshed ever since we booked it about six weeks ago. This thread has made me wonder if we would be selfish to still go assuming they stay open now. We are in kent and probably have one of the lowest covid case loads in the uk at the moment. When I see these stupid bastards having 100 plus guest weddings etc and the general indiference to compliance amongst youngsters, it does weaken the resolve to do the right thing while there seems to be a window for us. I think we will go but in spite of our best efforts to ignore everything for a week or two, it won't feel the same as it used to.

Still, at least I'm not in a dinghy in the channel. I wonder how their 'shall we, shan't we' conversations go before setting off:(

All depends how you fancy you chances , the virus hasn’t stopped me out and about locally but a ‘ trip ‘ no . Yes and as for wedding in west London , scenes in the fine city of Liverpool , what can you say .

Well, waking up to this in Cornwall today👍
following all guidelines, totally safe, wouldn’t do it if it was not I can assure you.

You only get one life. Mental healkth is as important as physical health, so sometimes you just have to weigh things up.
Im not saying you should increase your or anyone elses risk but careful planned sensible travelling in a motorhome is increasing not increasing the risk very much more than what you would do at home.

Do a personal risk assessment!
Plan ahead!
Check where you will be stopping is acceptable to you and satisfies the points on your risk assessment!
Minimise contact by travelling with your own water, extra cassette, enough gas and diesel for your return. Have enough food and consumables etc.
Use advised PPE and hand wash. Follow SD rules as advised.
Dont travel too far so you wouldn't be able to get home in an emergency.
If you feel in the slightest ill you should not travel or return home, Covid from what I have read doesnt appear one day with instantly incapacitating symptoms so you should always be able to get home.
Do all vehicle safety checks before travel to reduce the chance of needing maintenance during your travel.
Always be alert and remember that things change so you may need to re-assess.

We're on our second week away. The first was to a rally field on a site at Newark, this time we're at Haverigg for a week - ending today. We follow the rules and travel with a couple of tuggers who take at least as much care as we do - they're our "bubble". Even following the rules I won't go where we aren't welcome or would upset the locals.

Police and locals will get you at any time, regardless of current or similar situations.

The folk of north wales want our money but not us.

Without question, my least favourite place I have ever been to.
