A few years now
Saw this mentioned as working well on a Facebook group so have taken a punt as only £4.08 delivered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182709885530 (Quidco 5% too) - will be ideal if it does work so can use our solar when off EHU & not have to buy battery powered electric toothbrushes. There is always Paypal protection if it doesn't work well enough. Has anyone tried one of these USB chargers?

About bloody time. Hope it works, I might get one.

It looks like an unlicenced Chinese item that probably breaks a number of patents - a bit like my 12v Macbook charger, which has been invaluable in the MH.

I have a Philips toothbrush with USB charging for use in the MH, it works well and does not seem to take any longer to recharge that it does at home using the standard shaver socket type charger.

I got it as I had read that you could not use an inverter with the toothbrush chargers.

Happy with it!
 
Blimey over 4 quid for a charger, I only paid a fiver for my Lidl electric toothbrush.:xrofl:

You can use a PSW inverter with a toothbrush charger.

Just ordered one as Facebook group member was happy with theirs so bit of a gamble but will just go for Paypal refund if doesn't work well enough. Will post a review once received but will take a while as does look like it's coming direct from China!

Had one since August - bought off Amazon for £6.50.
Nothing much to say about it, except in works fine.
 
Yes had one since before May. Mentioned it on here at the time and whenever mentioned re inverters. Recommended. At the time Amazon had it as a one star item as it did not come with a cable.

@Gromett , you have warned about “cheap Chinese imports” of various USB devices. Do you think these would be safe?

I have an adaptor from the 2 pin socket on the normal 240v charger so can plug our Braun into either EHU or PSW inverter socket it the Moho. To be honest though the new Brauns last a good 2 weeks between charges so I think I have only ever charged it once in the Moho

We just buy an OralB toothbrush that uses AA batteries. They are only about a tenner and last well. If you want you can use rechargeable batteries and use either USB or 12v charger for them.

These are so good we started using them at home when our £100 rechargeable toothbrush's battery failed yet again. We find that they only seem to last 4 or 5 years so it is cheaper to buy the AA version and chuck it away after a couple of years.
 
I took mine to Italy and it lasted 5 weeks without a recharge. For some reason it wouldn't recharge on EHU in the van, and I was warned by an expert not to try it on the inverter. Any comments??
 
I got 3 toothbrushes for £4.50.

Very portable, ready to use at any time, lightweight, net zero energy and nice colours.. :xThumb::xThumb:

Toothbrushes have sensitive electronic components and apparently need PSW inverters and do not work in the cheaper inverters

But why wouldn't it charge in the van - current too low??

No reason it should not work in the van if on EHU. Problem occurs if running from battery and you do not use a sine wave inverter.
 
The reason that the toothbrush charger (and most other devices using similar technology) needs pure sine wave is because it includes low-tech wound components and not because of sensitive electronics. Modern more sensitive devices use switched-mode power supplies. These take whatever iffy mains that's presented to them, turn it into dc and store in a capacitor, then spit it out in dribbles as required by the device. They're pretty immune to any sort of inverter.

Is that the same argument for Pod coffee machines like Tassimo, that don’t like Inverters except PSW?

Most likely. They're probably devoid of any electronics but will almost certainly use a very simple mains motor to pump the water. It's the mains motor (or, if it's a low voltage motor, the transformer-based supply to it) that won't like non-sine wave inverters.
