Hi, I had new shock absorbers and springs fitted to my 2003 Fiat Ducato Swift kontiki.
It’s been fine on the motorways but awful on bad roads - I hit one pothole and the emergency fuel cutoff operated.
I’ve taken some photos of the top of the shock absorber on the drivers side and it doesn’t look right to me - it looks like the top nut hasn’t been fully tightened and I think there should be a bump stop there as well. Of course it’s Sunday, so no-one is open but do we have any mechanics who could look at the pictures?
I’m at Loch Lomond at the m, hoping to travel on to Campbeltown and then Skye and quite a few more islands, but won’t if it’s not safe.

They look like they are too long as the piston is only protruding a couple of inches?
It could be the main outer hitting the spring seat on rougher surfaces.
Normally the end of the outer where the piston rod comes out is about the middle of the spring.
Do you have the original receipt with the part details on it?

They/it certainly doesn't look right.
It appears to have a couple of inches of movement where it should have 5 or 6 inches.
I suspect they are the wrong shockers.....too long in the shocker body.
If it's hitting the top mount it certainly won't do the mount any good.

Yes, they are KYB635807, springs are KYBRA1777. I’ll look them up online.

It’s certainly a rough ride with potholes, I’m trying to contact a Fiat garage or local specialist for them to asses what is wrong. I think if the bump stop was there it would lift the vehicle at the very least.

Did you change the top hat when renewing suspension?
No, I don’t think the garage did, I wasn’t charged for it if they did. I would expect them to replace anything that needed doing after discussion with me.

There must be some sort of bush missing such as shown in Jev88 picture, or at least something similar to stop the shock absorber shaft from moving up & down destroying the top mount hole and the shock absorber thread.
Times have changed somewhat, I remember most Tyre fitting places also fitted new shock absorbers, but any mechanic worth his sort would look and see that is not right.
I hope a solution is found soon, I wouldn't want to drive any distance with that set up.
Good luck to the OP.

Ian A There are several videos on YouTube of replacing Ducato/Citroen/Peugeot front shocks but it's difficult to see if anything is missing on your setup.

Here is one of them but not sure the Year of the van.
