Upholstery Cleaning.

Hi,,any recomends of a way to clean/shampoo upholstery in my motorhome...Thanks in advance.BUSBY.

Have you got a steam cleaner they usually work well.

My covers on Hymer zip off and went in washing machine, came up lovely
Might even do them again if I run out of other things to keep me occupied
If yours don't unzip, steamer is probably best option

Try 1001 upholstery & carpet cleaner - yes really!

I had a large coffee stain on the passenger seat of my van, it got rid of the stain so well, that I had to clean the rest of the upholstery to match



And for those of a certain age: "1001 cleans a big, big carpet for les than half a crown" (& Cyril Lord agreed by saying "if that one cost less than ten bob, that's the one I'd buy" - his advert slogan was: "this is luxury you can afford by Cyril Lord") - jeez I remember a lot of crap

I used a local mobile car cleaning guy to do my previous Autotrail, 6 berth U lounge so quite a few cushions.
He charged me £30. Did a great job in around an hour, well worth the money..
NOTE... I did call a so called "caravan specialist" who quoted over £100..

My children are still small, so my choice is removable covers and washing in a washing machine. I can just throw it out in the most severe cases))

May sound strange but for small areas and stains I’ve found that Asda’s lemon floor wipes are successful.

We have those Hymer covers that are like suede which unzip and could do with a clean. Do these machine wash?

can't help with suede sorry, mine are fabric. If its proper suede I suspect it wont wash ?

Don’t need a steam cleaner. Autoglym car upholstery cleaner or similar is excellent, used by the trade to clean grubby car seats. Just soak upholstery really well all over and evenly to avoid water ring marks and vacuum before and after. Follow the instructions!

Our cushion covers were really odd-I think VERY dirty .. water spilled on then or even a drip from a wet coat produced a black ring at the outer of the drip. Tried wiping them , cleaning with upholstery cleaner, steam and then scotch guarding- nothing helped . By co incidence was looking again on net today - found this thread and others stating the covers are removable- had looked before thought they were not as ‘ welded’ to foam by large plastic plates on the passenger seats and seemingly sewn into long cushions, also they have wooden panels on the base passenger seats. Emboldened I set about them - cut hundreds of cord ties that anchored the inner trim through the foam after trying to push them out ( decided I would never get them back anyway) Folded the large plastic panels on the seat belt side seats and pushed them through . Washed in machine - plastic plates ok cushions clean and not shrunken yay. May not be a doddle to get them back on tho... have the other half of van covers to do tomorrow once I have removed the screws in the feet that slot into the wooden base and are anchoring the seat firmly over a gap. An utter ordeal and palaver , and if the bloody things still stain I will possibly go completely mad .... obs half way there already.

We took our covers off, as when we got it the head rest bit grubby, so took just that off to start with, came up great on 30 deg.. In the washing mAchine, so did all the others, what I had read previously on here, which was a big help, put back on whilst a little damp,,we found that easier to get them back on..plus we took pictures before and after, to make sure put back the right way.

I agree with the 'ever so slightly damp' tip, because they then dry properly to the exact shape, but for goodness sake if you wash them now-ish - make sure there is heating and ventilation in the van so they can finish drying thoroughly otherwise you are risking mould and stink. And risk causing the foam to crumble later if it gets wet then can't dry properly.

Halfords own brand upholstery cleaner works very well on our lights beige seats.

borrowed a vax- decided not to cut the plastic anchors off the covers with wooden bases.... cleaned covers back on yaaay , one where I removed the plastic tags is bit a loose where they should have been re done but ones I am vaxxing are producing THE dirtiest water in the return reservoir, will have to do this twice. Giving me the willies how dirty it is !!

I presume a bit like carpets, sometimes the diet comes to the surface, then the second wash really cleans, good luck.
