Ooooh I couldn't do that I'm a horder and a worrier so having lots of tools and spares gives some peace of mind!Every long trip away, we make a list of everything we hadn’t used and remove it from the motorhome when we get home. We have got rid of loads of stuff and so far we have not missed anything we have taken out. We find it very therapeutic.
I used to carry a full set of the encyclopedia Britannica but Rose knows everything so I got rid of it.We've carried a rolling pin in the van for thousands of miles and it's never ever been used (I just use a glass for rolling pastry)
And a 5 tonne winch. (Well actually it was used once about 12 years ago to help someone else out)
Any unused treasures eating into your payload and taking up space?![]()
Terry and Bill (Ambilkate ) came to our rescue many years ago at the Upton upon Severn Blues festival when we had a water leak in our 1st IH, we were panic stricken, had no idea where to start. Running round like headless chickens. In the early days, I reduced the size of the tool box as I would never see Terry. He would be off fixing stuff. Now, after nearly 10yrs, I've added half of the workshop back to the van![]()

Rather cryptic?![]()
I put mine in for last weekend's trip to a steep site in Derbyshire. The only place I've used them in 10 years. Ended up on a pitch at the bottom of the site, didn't use the ramps. Took them out again when I got home.I took the levelling ramps out once in 2019 as hadn't used them for a while, next site we went on I needed them and had to scavenge some wooden logs to level up... SO, I put them back in and haven't used them since![]()
I also carry a heavy duty towing strap. On the basis that if I DID have to be pulled out of any mud etc, I'd rather have a strap I trust than some of the bits of baler string type 'ropes' I've seen being used. Never used it for my own van (yet), but did use it to tow out a Crafter which had got bogged down in some soft ground alongside the hard standing my van was on.I carry a 5ton towing strap!! Bought for a previous van and never used. However I know if I take it out I’ll end up needing it!!
I just choked on my morning coffee Janine , can't stop laughingI used to take a man around with me but he turned out to be a total waste of payload![]()
