We are toying with the idea of getting a scooter as a runaround but would need to be able to take the dog (Border Collie) along with us. Is this feasible - without a sidecar à la Wallace and Gromit? Any ideas welcome, please.

That’s interesting. I will have a Google for the Honda trailers.I have seen people with bicycles towing a dog trailer. The Honda motor bikes have matching trailers but I am not sure about the legal side of dogs in trailers.
I’m not sure that Nix would be safe doing that on an ordinary scooter. Higher speeds and less stability than a mobility scooter.I suppose it depends on how much room there is in the footwell of your scooter.
I know mine is a mobility scooter, but Gabby sits between my feet when she needs a rest.
Not in Greece,,have seen scooters two up plus a Labrador on board on Crete. BUSBY.I fear a collie would be too big and heavy for either a topbox mounted seat or a doggie backpack
Aye, a small car is probably more sensible but we had hoped to carry a scooter on a tow bar rack rather than have a separate trailer. Although if we have to get a trailer for Nix to travel in behind the scooter I have no idea where that would go on the van.maz we went through all the options when looking at transport while out on a trip wanting to take our two dogs as we do a lot of wildlife and bird watching and ended up with Fiat Panda 4x4 and trailer it works perfectly for us but everyone is different.
Wonderful. But unfortunately a tad small for a Border Collie.Saw this in Spain - Jack Russell type of dog but taller & longer, mounted on the front of a Vespa scooter

It reminds of a visit to Barcelona our Italian neighbour took his dog in the top box, no ventilation just shut the lid, we saw then and said about the dog on the scooter and he said it's a big problem they can no longer travel outside, I nearly said and these new rules also means the whole family can no long travel together.
How about electric bikes Maz, you could get a trailer if it's a long way, we do anything up 70km with Izzy in the basket, but Nixy is a bit big for those.

Or one of these. Bob.
Yes that's the problem, of course mine is much slower and Gabby is used to it, in fact she loves it.I’m not sure that Nix would be safe doing that on an ordinary scooter. Higher speeds and less stability than a mobility scooter.
Yes....tow a horse in a trailer, fold away stable....seems a good plan to me.Love the video clip - and I could probably train Nix to do that as well.
Me and bikes, whether pedal or electric, are not a happy combination. I’m safer on horseback. Now there’s a thought!
Brilliant! If only things were so simple nowadays. This has reminded me of the book A Ride in the Sun.
It's about a woman on a BSA bantam with an Airedale Terrier.
Yes, we’d already thought about the exhaust fumes issue. Realistically, transporting a scooter plus trailer on a tow bar rack is a non-starter for us anyway. Unless there is some way of securing Nix on the scooter itself we won’t be buying one.We have successfully used a dog trailer behind e bikes for our collie and have always been open to alternatives but surely a dog in a trailer behind a motorbike or scooters exhaust fumes would be fatal? Could work behind one of the new electric scooters if permissible .
Seen that in Naples, the Lab was sitting on the foots boards in front of the rider on a Vespa. Not in Greece,,have seen scooters two up plus a Labrador on board on Crete. BUSBY.
Left and right not so much of a problem - lack of opposable thumbs more of an issue. But does your collie know how to ride the scooter ?
Our dog doesn't know his left from his right, he'd be a menace in charge of a moped
