We're on a campsite on Lake Iseo and OH wants to watch the funeral on Monday.
We have data to achieve this but of course very limited amounts.
In 2018 we were on lake Garda at the time of Harry's wedding and we used our digital aerial to access Italian tv broadcasts and streamed BBC commentry.
I've tried tuning in the same setup again to Italian tv, but it just comes up as incompatible format.
Does anyone know what's changed, do I need an Italian aerial, or is it the tv tuner that's now incompatible???
Site wifi is ok but the apps recognize us as being abroad and whilst I could buy a local sim, I've never used a VPN and from reading up they sound a little flakey and unreliable
Help appreciated 👍

BBC can see you are not in the UK?. VPN system would avoid this
That's what I understand, but vpn's seem unreliable from what I've read, I've never used one and no idea how to set one up.
I just wondered if buying an Italian digital aerial would be a simpler solution to keep the Mrs happy

There'll be plenty repeats 😁

Plenty of free and accessible and "non vpn needed" streams online... BBC News on iPlayer has not been geoblocked since about last Friday, Sky News Live on youtube is not geoblocked either, and I am sure BBC World News will be streaming it also. BBC World News and Sky News are also available via satellite (Astra 1 at 19 east). Not sure which "terrestrial" channels will be showing it live, maybe a bit of "trail and error" to catch an Italian news channel that may be showing it, assuming your equipment is compatible, as "incompatible format." sounds like your receiver is not compatible with the Italian transmissions.

Thanks for that, those live streams would be useful if I can get a local data sim.
I think my tv tuner may be incompatible with Italian transmissions now, it worked in 2018, but now although tuning finds 200+ chanel's it says incompatible
I'll see what parrot face says later.
Thanks 👍

I thought if you used a UK sim you didn't need a von? We've never had issues abroad streaming bbc?

It's hard to explain iptv to people. You have thousands of channels including all UK channels. But because its streaming you need loads of data. With a good Internet connection you shouldn't get any buffering. I've watched a 5 day test match with no buffering and all for £15 a year.

Used my Netgear M2 with unlimited EE data for trips the last 18 months all over Europe without any issues, a few places we had a bit of buffering but that’s all.

I pay £30 a year and it runs off a sky type browser
