Doing my first trip into Europe (SEPTEMBER). cost wise is the tunnel likely to be the cheapest due to the size of my MH 8.6 Long & 3.3 High

No, generally the ferry is cheaper. I use P&O , the only problem we have is the distance to Dover with what time to book the ferry for. If booking the tunnel, size doesn’t matter as you just tick motorhome.

The benefits of the tunnel are: It is quicker; more flexible (you can be 2 hours late without issue); you do not have to get out your van, go up and down step stairs, take bags; loading/offloading is more straightforward; you can have a sleep, snack or shower during the crossing (gas has to be off); if you buy 10 crossings (5 returns known as Frequent Traveller) then the price drops like a stone- there are offers on here from time-to-time from others to share- even if you buy 5 crossings each it is cheap and flexible; you can buy vouchers through Tesco (although not Frequent); dogs do not need to be left in the van; one size fits all from VW up to Winnebago.
If you are coming from Scotland then you need to judge the timing of your trip round the M25 but that applies to both. Travelling from any port other than Folkestone/Dover prices go up exponentially.

Same here 9mtr and tunnel every time ...the earlier you book the better .. have also noticed with searching for tunnel prices it seems to be more expensive after a few scans ..I look on one device and book on another ..works for me lol

You can get 2 returns for about 220 on the tunnel if you do frequent traveller.
@Camdoon post hit nail on head with sledgehammer apart from difficulty of 5 journeys each. You both end up in France!
One of you needs to do 3 return journeys but you can both do 3. We are on same partner for 2nd year. Never met him. And he is a funsters.

Tunnel for us too
Ferry makes me feel so sick

Tunnel is cheaper too if you’re a frequent traveler

Tunnel for us too, even though with a pvc we still pay the same price as much bigger rigs. Just the shear convenience, and we use the 'frequent traveller' scheme too...

Tunnel should be around £118-130 even at short notice I booked my crossing 15th January and crossed 17th £112 plus dog

It will also depend on the route. Some are much cheaper than others. Although you are going in Septemb

What dates are you booking?

I used the 1,09 to 30,09 on both tunnel & ferry to get a like for like prices , but could vary slightly , probably best for us arriving at Calais

You are not doing anything wrong on the Tunnel side anyway. Ferrys aren't always cheaper even off peak. Although we can only get away during School Holiday periods, we always use the Tunnel and we live 20 mins from Portsmouth Ferry port.

I remember getting ferry diver to Calais for £50 but that was 2014 ...always seemed more expensive everytime I've looked since

Airline / hotel sites and the like do the same. They know if you keep looking that at some point they will display a price you like.

Amazon in the US offers prices based on your location and previous purchasing history on some things. If you are in a city with lots of competitive retailers for a TV say then you will get offered a lower price than someone in the sticks who can't easily get to a range of real shops.

My point being that from observation, there tends to be a lot more folk looking for 2 return crossings than 3 but even if you both only make 2 return crossings thereby paying for a single crossing each that is not made, you will still be £££s up. £278 for 2 returns (460/2 +4*£12) is still good value for motorhomes especially if you add the flexibility of the FT ticket.

I really appreciate that info , once I sell my house and have more time to travel, I’ll look into Frequent Traveller
