Hi All We have travelled a fair bit in Spain and France but tomorrow we are going to Croatia for the first time. Our plan is staying at sites or aires in Ypres, Saarburg, Colmar, Jungfraucamp in Switzerland over the Sustan pass to Lake Iseo in Italy then towards Krk in Croatia. Any recommendations on this trip or places to stay in Croatia gratefully received Thank you

If you can fit it in a stop at Ljubljana in Slovenia it is well worth it. We loved it and the site is just outside of the town and directly on a bus route. The in thing is to have breakfast at one of the many bars down at the river. Have promised ourselves another visit sometime.

We stopped here for a night on our way to Camping KRK.
It’s a nice 10 min stroll to Lake Bled.

Our route out in May was
Harwich/Hoek of Holland (Cabin on the ship)
1st night Green Camping on the Rhein at Braubach/Germany
2nd and 3rd night at Camping Insel at Bamburg/Germany
4th and 5th night at St Wolfgangsee/Austria
6th night at Camping 3 Communiti at Lago di Cavazzo/Italy
7th night Camping Bor Krk/Croatia

The Dutch and German roads are toll free (hence by default we always avoid France, as what you may possibly save on the ferry you loose on the tolls.
That said, the Harwich crossing, with a cabin, is often cheaper than the massive queue sardine crossing at Dover.
(Although you may be able to get a good deal from people smugglers looking for a return cargo)

To cross France it's advisable to get a CritAir sticker
To cross Germany its advisable to get a Umwelt sticker
To cross Switzerland or Austria you will need a Vignette (a stick on the screen ticket available at the border)
To cross Slovenia you also need a Vignette, but they do their on line and check via ANPR, buy one here

FYI -

The advise we were give by three different couples was 'Don't bother' in 2023.
Following an earthquake during the pandemic they are only now getting around to repairing the damage.

Many of the main things to see and do are closed and covered in scaffolding including the cathedral and museum.
But may all be open in 2024 or 2025

Try camping Opitija in Icici on the way down Croatia. Large easy going site with plenty around to walk , bus or cycle to. We went for a couple of nights and stayed over 3 weeks.
