Just had renewal through for annual travel insurance from Asda.
Reduction of £20 to £95 on last year's premium !
It'd be a good buy normally, but I fear it's not worth buying at any price just now.
No doubt when I do want it, it'll be back up in price :swear2:

We haven't renewed our annual travel insurance. I talked our our insurance company about it. The concern is that it is highly unlikely that coronavirus or anything related to it will be covered by any insurance policy until there is a tried and tested vaccine. We have the EHIC cards for Europe but only until the end of December. Any foreign travel after then could be problematic in insurance terms.

This is our greatest concern with regard to travel abroad. If we are allowed to travel later this year, we will probably do so, returning to the UK before the end of December. After that, we wouldn't be prepared to take the risk.

Out of interest, does your renewal include cover in the event of requiring medical intervention for Coronavirus?

My travel insurance company wrote to me on 26 March telling me I was covered for Covid-19 and assuring me they would NOT place restrictions on renewals for existing customers, but they did not indicate wether such renewals would have Covid-19 restrictions.

They also advised me that they are not selling ANY new travel policies, but that my renewal (September) would take place, but only for customers that had automatic renewal in place (I'm guessing thats because my existing policy with auto renewal effectively just continues)

I've just checked their website and it states my insurance is valid for any trip booked before the FCO general advise not to travel, but unsurprisingly NOT for any trip booked after that.

So effectively if I travel now and get sick I would NOT be insured, but once the FCO lift the general travel ban I would be covered if I got sick.

For trips I'd already booked before the FCO advise not to travel I'm covered for cancelations etc, but not for trips booked after the FCO advise.

Interestingly ALL the trips I had booked have had flights cancelled and refunded except Tokyo in a few weeks where BA are showing the flight as still scheduled (not that theres any chance I'll be on it, I'm meant to be building a stage for a concert and that won't happen)

More worrying is another Far Eastern trip in October, I booked and paid for business class, transfers, hotels etc but again the event will almost certainly be cancelled, but my travel insurance will cover me, or will it?

The policy renews 1 week before the booked trip.

I've had the same policy, with the same policy number for several years, and Forbes website states that conditions cannot be imposed AFTER the policy has been taken. So if the policy is the same one as today hopefully I'll be covered, but i won't know for sure until the auto renewal on 29th September.
