My understanding from watching police programmes on channel 5 (so not claiming to be an expert!!!) is that the ANPR systems will alert for stolen vehicles (as long as they have been reported to the police as such).Could it have been stolen then dumped I wonder? As it was taxed and MOT'ed, it might not have pinged in the Police car?
but if the vehicle hadn't moved from the day it was stolen and before it was reported, it would not trigger any fixed camera's would it?My understanding from watching police programmes on channel 5 (so not claiming to be an expert!!!) is that the ANPR systems will alert for stolen vehicles (as long as they have been reported to the police as such).
This week on one of the shows, there was a car flagged as stolen which triggered a fixed ANPR camera and was subsequently stopped. It turned out the owner had just picked up the recovered car but the stolen flag hadnt been taken off the ANPR system

Why would the police trace the owner? Abandoned vehicles are the responsibility of the local authority. But you would think the police and local council would take an interest.
Many years ago there was a glut of abandoned cars littering the streets.
After a while the police would stick a "police aware" sticker on the screen then the council would remove for scrap.
Why the police can't trace the owner, if it has plates which this has, then visit the owner to see what's going on.
I know they are so busy pulling speeders and kids on leccy scooters but it wouldn't take long.
