We are thinking of buying a motorhome from Hull and would need to get it transported from Hull to Sussex.
Can anyone recommend a compnay that could do this for us.
Thanks.

Funster may be able to drive it.

I'd get breakdown insurance and drive it. If it broke down the recovery firm would bring it home for you. ;)

I'm familiar with this Sussex firm who are worth a call.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look at this company. Issues are getting to Hull by public transport to get it back, a real hassle!

So what's the problem, train up there drive it back.

That's what I did when I picked our MH up from Grimsby on the other side of the water from Hull.

The train fare was £17.50 off-peak compared to £40 odd pounds in diesel for the misses to drive me up there and for her to drive back, and I got to wave to Jaws on the way back as I passed him on the A1. :giggle:

I've bought cars and motorhomes all over the UK and Europe. Train or plane to the destination and just drive it home.

Valna t/a Vehicle Movement Specialists from Portsmouth are collecting our Elddis in Southampton, driving it to Stafford to px with new Dethleffs which they are then driving back to Southampton. £300 + vat + fuel. Let me know if you want an intro

I am sure a Funster might like the adventure. Could possibly do it myself but then £40 to Hull and £75? from Sussex to Peterborough (home) you might as well don't yourself?

When I px'd my Marquis Majestic 125 for my current Carthago last August, I did the return trip in a day from Fareham to Go European's site which is only about eight miles from Stafford. It also included my wife having a browse round the adjacent garden centre!! The only issue for you at present might be fuel availability. By the time you add the VAT, you'll be parting with almost £400 just to save a trip up the M6.

More to it than that - I work full time and so lose a day's pay but more importantly, my Wife is clinically vulnerable and awaiting a respiratory consultation - consequently, we have to be careful about mixing

Got ours from Cleveland Motorhomes, we live in North London. Trained it up, stayed in local hotel and drive it back via York for the night. Easy.

Also have family and friends in Hull if you needed a go between.

We hired a car drove us, dog and bedding up to collect van. Dropped off car at rental place then overnighted in the new van in a pub campsite. Was a great experience.

I have also purchased cars bikes and vans from all over the country...I usually use National Express or MegaBus, to get to my destination, then simply ride or drive home...It's normally great fun.

£400 a day is nearly £600 that has to be earned, blimey. If I was earning that sort of money I would pay a car transport firm to collect it on a low loader.

I have had quotes from these (£550) before, that was a Moho from Norfolk to Inverness. In the end we flew down, hired a one way car hire and then drove it back home.

I think you would want a company to do it with decent insurance if the van is of any value.

Do you have any family who could do it.

Does the seller, if a company not have professional drivers?

Find a local garage who uses drivers and ask where they source them from. Probably an agency.

Cheers James

I picked mine up by travelling across country by train. Even used one of those split ticket sites to make it cheaper. But if your spending more money on a van with beds in than most houses cost where I live it's all relative. Get it to where you want it in a way that is best for the individual. I worked from the train during the journey so didn't even have to take a day off. As for using agency drivers get the dealer to arrange it.then ifor there are any issues it's their problem. If I was spending that kind of money I think I would be expecting the dealer to deliver. But then again my mother always said I expected too much. :X3: the most important thing is get it on your drive and start using it 😆

Another thought can you get the current owners to drive it down and pay for their return, train, hire car, taxi etc.

Seen these guys on the interwebnet

We had a breakdown with our Moho in Beverley last December, we were recovered via our breakdown rescue on a standard transporter. Just tell them the height of the Moho and they will do the business. Ours at 3.19 metres high still got under the standard road bridges 16’6” ( tad over 5metres) so if the transporter load bed is less than 1.8metres I am OK. These guys on the recovery vehicles know all about height of bridges.
