Tow Bar - Cycle rack

Have a tow bar which is attached to the lower setting (EU Approved, etc), there is about a 3 inch gap from the tow ball to the cross member.

Does anyone know which tow bar cycle rack is likely to fit, given the small gap regarding any housing that needs to cover the tow ball and not foul the cross member.

All racks seem to be on line and getting a view of which one will fit is proving challenging without buying first.
 
You can get a spacer and longer bolts.

It if is a swan neck type then a visit to cycle rack out to see what fits.

I have one of these for sale in the "Classifieds"...

Cost over £400.... it`s for 4 bikes.. Comes complete with Tow ball bracket etc...

Only asking £100... buyer collects... cos it`s heavy..

This is it fitted to my van.... But not fitted now, as I have taken it orft...

If you want to use it on a car... There is a clip thingy that lets it swing down, so you can open the boot or hatchback door..

We’ve got a detachable Swan Neck type tow bar on our PVC…….no racks on the market that will give enough clearance to open our back doors.

We have a Thule 2 bike rack which we have to take off to open the doors to switch the gas on or get something out the back. Bit of a pain but only takes a couple of minutes to take off then put back on, however, with the bikes on it’s a two person job. 🤷‍♂️

Both racks as shown will do the job, Old-Mo's is a good bit of kit by the looks. I have a Thule system, Halfrauds do similar; it's great for the car but be warned, unless it's like the two shown above, they won't fit unless you intend to turn the bike handlebars along the same plane as the bike frames as the Moho will have flat rear end, not a slope like a car.

I'm pretty sure it is THIS one.

It seems very secure. I've only ever used it with one bike. The straps are probably sufficient on their own, but I use a few short length of foam pipe insulation and a couple of additional straps pulled tight to make sure.

We use a Altera bike rack on our Sprinter PVC however if i was to purchase new again i wouldn't go down the towbar/carrier route.
Look at a Dutch company called Memo particularly the swing away systems that fit to the vehicles chassis.
Not much more expensive if buying a bar and carrier and much stronger.
The Altera has never let me down on our VW California it was fine, bounce around a bit but i was reassured that i could always see it or part of a bike when traveling.
However on the larger van it's totally out of sight which is a little disconcerting.

We need the towbar for a motorcycle trailer, so it needs to be dual purpose for us. (y)
