My brothers is in Ayia Napa Cyprus for a couple of weeks and a good friend is in Greece for the week. Both complaining this week that it is too bloody hot?. Why do we do it to ourselves when we have such a wonderful summer climate in this country
?
.

Best to go away to hotter climes in the winter and then enjoy our lovely British summers???

We have the typical British summer hissing down interspersed with thunder n lightning .

I'll settle for hot anytime (y)

The one thing I love about Spain is I can live in a vest, shorts and sandals all day from dawn till dusk , I don't have to carry a jumper or a jacket , I don't have to say " I'll do that tomorrow if it's dry " and for that on the days where it may be a little hot and uncomfortable I won't complain because the alternative is much worse.
That said it's why I like the coast more than inland because there's often a breeze and you've the option of going in the sea to cool down

I don’t like it too hot, 25 is my perfect temperature but even then I like a wee breeze
No way I could live in heats well above this and I need my winter to balance it all, can’t beat a nice crisp frosty morning with beautiful sunshine

Same, 25-26 is perfect for me but I could be done with that all year round instead of winter.

I'm not good in extreme heat especially the real heavy and humid kind. I remember last year when some places in Spain were in the news for the highest ever temps reached there. I thought I'd like to go and witness it just to feel what it's like but only if the plane was waiting for me after half an hour with the aircon on

Straying off topic a wee bit, you never quite no how hot a place is. I was cycling down Villajoyosa main street a few days ago and one pharmacy on the sunny side of the road had it at 31 then a bit further down on the shade side it was 26. So do you say it's roughly 28 and a half?

Wonderful summer climate..... Yer avin a larf.
Today I've been cutting back our rear garden hedge, slightly overgrown at 14ft, to a nice 7ft.
Too much for the Bosch hedge cutter so doing it by hand with branch loppers.
This morning I weighed 17st....this evening I weigh 6st, I'm so dehydrated I'm peeing iron bru, no matter how much I drink I can't replace the sweat.
Wonderful summer climate my arse.

Cyprus can be a bit ott. I have spent a few mid summers there where if you stand still for 30 seconds you leave a puddle of sweat under your feet. Once hired a car there without A/C couldn't open the windows as the air burnt your face. Give me a nice UK climate anytime.

I like the warmth.

Unless I am in France of course.

Then it’s shit.

... well don’t go and leave more room for the rest of us

Regulally worked in over 40c. spent 3 months in Lae , relieving, mostly British India, loading copra, anything under 40 was a blessed relief. But with loose clothing, a hat and sipping water it was bearable, Started at 0530 and in the lounge bar of the Boroko Hotel by 1500 showered and "rehydrating" :D2

We’ve had it at 42 degs C on the deck going through the Suez Canal and 50 degs inside a Seaking Helicopter inside the hangar doing a mod on the Anti-Icing system. Wtf??☠️☠️

Papua New Guinea A wild place when I was there, the Kanakas used to turn up for work , the only article of clothing they wore was a Penis Gourd.
I was relieving while the company found a replacement for the last joker, the Kanakas tried to kill him with shovels, the 3rd mate saved him by firing his revolver down the hatch. I carried a sawn off in a holster for my own protection, Never used it, never even removed it from the holster.

Sounds like an interesting place to work rangi, many must feel they have had a boring 9to5 existence when they read accounts like this. Going back to the heat, I did visit the northern territory once which was hot enough as I remember.

Worked in Cyprus and was given a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 diesel with no air con. You had to drive along with the windows open except going up hills when you had to shut the windows to maintain any speed.
You used to see the open top "jeeps" with Brits being sizzled in them or as we called them "they'll be sorry tomorrow".
Nicosia in 44 degrees used to be torturous as there was no wind.
Worse case was heat travelling through Greece and had some dodgy chicken the night before and it hit 45. Fast movement and fast movements do not go with that level of heat. Some 4 months later heading to Scotland in murky weather with the windscreen washers frozen at -5 was a horrendous contrast.

In Sydney, on a hot day, with no AC in your van, the aussies called it 2/60 , you opened 2 windows and drove at 60mph

Just arrived home from Suffolk, the weather has been fantastic, everywhere is a green as a gooseberry. We had a few spots of rain on the way home but it added to our wonderful weather pattern. Just take a look at the Suffolk sun it is huge, looks like it is floating on the Sea...
