I know this has been discussed before but just back from a few nights away and been using a Bio Gel liquid in the cassette and the smell out of cassette when "stirred" was awfull ! Has any additive proved successful in sweetening it up as I have reverted back to the "blue" additive?

The last time I tried Bio washing liquid I had the same problem, previously used them quite sucessfully but I found them less effective in warmer climates.
But that may be down to having Blue residues in the cassette and I hadn`t heard previously that this may cause them to not work.
So next time I try Bio I`ll be sure to clean cassette out to remove all blue.
Thinking about it, I may even have combined Blue and Bio

Is the smell bad when you're emptying it?
Rather than making the bathroom gross while it's fitted?
We're using Lidl's bio powder. Pre-covid-19 it worked very well - the little room was quite fragrant,
Now with covid-19 the little room is neutral but the emptying - oh, that's worse than before.
(You know what's changed right?)

Anyway, are your seals well maintained?

I found that with the Aldi bio liquid, if mixed with clean water and allowed to stand for a while, it stinks more than anything else.
We used Lidl bio no problems.
Changed to Aldi, couldn’t bear to be in the van, let alone the bathroom.

After using lidl bio liquid for some time got a strong ammonia smell I too reverted to blue 😕

Been using Lidl bio for years, no problem. Must reiterate that all traces of blue must be removed though.
Can't comment on Aldi though as never used it.

How do you maintain your seals?

How do you maintain your seals?
There’s a thetford seal spray. But there are other suitable liquids as it’s only a silicone seal lubricant aerosol.
Use that after a few of the empty & rinsing stages.

I have a mild perfume aversion and find that Elsan Organic works really well - it's actually made for the job

Life's way too short to mess about trying to save a few pennies on keeping your toilet smell free 🙂

A very very dilute solution of zoflora in a spray bottle, sprayed round the bowl, flush to rinse and wipe dry with toilet paper - loo paper then in cassette and all smells great.

I use bio tabs - any own make are fine - and I've also found that leaving the cassette to "mature" for a day or two before emptying really helps with the waste digestion.

If you really want to push the boat out

but I don't know what it would do to your cassette / seals etc and rather think a couple of drops of essential oil (or essential oils in a carrier oil) in the cassette would have the same effect for a lot less cost.

The smell of the commercial chemicals makes me feel unwell. Goes to show we are all different.

Eat a more balanced diet, do not forget to close the sliding flap when finished.

WE have NOT used any proprietary chemicals for 14 years

Once you have got your cassette clean (Soak for 3+ days in wash liquid/tabs at double the amount you need) if you have been using blue and pink the cassette will be black inside not grey - this takes around 3-4 months continuous usage to clear

Until then use 2 tabs in every use and add a minimum 10ml of Zoflora depends on how much garlic you eat :rofl:

Fit a SOG and don't use chemicals, all the smell gets drawn out no smell in the van.
Just let me know where you are parking though, and not a good idea if your toilet is the same side as your awning unless you have a very good filter. as was said no smell INSIDE the van not always so pleasant for those outside,

I have a roof vented SOG which does not have a filter, however I still use bio tabs. As long as you are the required 6m away you should not be troubled, even on curry night.
