Hi all. We are away for our first wee trip in out MoHo and trying to get to grips with it all. One thing that does not look right us that after we emptied our grey water the panel still says full.

Any bright ideas why?

Is it still full?

Ciao

They are only accurate until they are used once. Mine also says 100% when empty or 75% or something else. My fresh water ranges between 0 and 50% at it wishes.
Enjoy the vagaries of motorhome electrics. Mine has probes which measure the water depth. Once dirty they lie!
Enjoy and don't worry

Probably fat and gunge on the probes, unscrew the inspection hatch get your hand in there and clean them. Worth giving the tank a regular dose of Thetford Tank Cleaner, Biological washing liquid works quite well but not as well as the tank cleaner.
And if the fresh water tank plays up, take the probes out and decale them to get rid of the calcium build up on them, I find white wine vinegar works best.

If the probes are kept clean they are fairly reliable.

Are you pressing the right button? Most have 'multi-function' displays so you could be looking at the fresh water tank. It's been done before ;) (y)

If you always empty your waste before you fill up with fresh, the two should remain in synch. You'll get to know how long that will last and may never need to look at misleading gauges again.
There should be an overflow for the waste so, if you let it get full, a puddle will accumulate beneath your van.

Ignore the gauges.

As already said ignore the gauges

Why? They work fine if the probes are kept clean. Apart from when a probe failed at a couple of months old on our first van I've not had any problems with them over 3 vans & 10 years only time had inaccurat readings is when the probes have needed a clean.
Too many people are too quick to say the water gauges are useless because they can't be bothered to clean them.

I agree with @Lenny HB 's remarks above as we haven't had problems with the gauges on any of our motorhomes.

My solution for keeping the grey waste tank clean is to have it about 10% full when leaving a site, preferably with hot fresh water.
On arrival at destination drain it immediately and watch the crud flow out.

I use four 2ltrs of that very expensive full fat coke in the waste tank from Aldi (17p) when tank empty, drive around with it in and dump when you arrive at next aire/site, works wonders. Note! Don't drink the stuff I've seen what it does to my waste tank.

I've tried all the old wives remidies the only thing I've found works properly is the Thetford tank cleaner and biological washing liquid a close second.
I don't think the tank cleaner works out much more expensive as you only need a small dollop down each plug hole not 8 litres.

I disconnected our waste tank sensor and made sure I emptied the tank every time I filled up.
....or use a Polar Bears advice....it works.

If you're not convinced that the waste tank is empty, there should be a large cover on the top of the tank that you can unscrew to take a look.

When working, the gauges measure the depth of liquid present. Many displays only show 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full because they recognise the inaccuracies involved. If the tank is not uniform, the simple depth approach becomes even more inaccurate. Unless you're lucky, they can only give a rough guide.

I hadn't thought of that. What a brilliant idea ! And when you run hot water through when you are on a site, it doesn't even cost anything lol
