Tik Tok as a Motorhome adventure platform

People keep asking me if I will be uploading and going through and Vlogging our upcoming trip. They also keep asking if I would share a lot of the things we have done and the changes we've seen in 20 + years of motorhoming.

I am not a lover of Youtube bloggers, find the content, too long, often poorly edited with awful sound. If I were to do one it would be more of a spoof one tbf.
One of my (younger) friends told me that Tik Toking is the easier, more simple way of demonstrating your journey, picking up simple points of interests wihtout all the
"hello, my name is Brian, this is my wife Elsie and together we are the Motorhome Muppets" Today we will be telling you why you have to have lithium, blah blah blah..

Simple, point of interest videos, allowing for comments & questions. likes and dislikes. He gave me a demonstration, and I was quite impressed to be honest.
But,
I said to him, that the average motorhomer would either not know what Tik Tok is, or have it...
can you take a stab at my poll and let me prove him wrong or right?

Not to say that some Youtubers I haven't enjoyed, and some give me a little giggle, but, too many wannabe TV celebrities. But of course, each to their own, mine is about being able to recall my journey for ourselves and share it with friends and other interested parties.

I only used Tik Tok once, I didn't like the constant autoplay style, it made my brain fry.
Though my wife uses it and does quite often show me some interesting videos related to motor-homing, she uses it for ideas whilst we are away.

Nah, don't trust TikTok or the owners of it. Both me and wife refuse to have it installed or have accounts. It's popular amongst our friends with children, but it says something that none of my friends without children have it installed at all.

Never used Thick Toc, much prefer Instagram, can search for subjects you want to see.

So, I took a look at TikTok. I tried to like it. Honestly, I did.

Lip-syncing, dance challenges, A guy yelling “WAIT FOR IT” at a video where literally nothing happens, and someone earnestly reviewing a cheese toastie like it was a supercar. I realised something: TikTok you can keep it. It was puerile. It was nerve-janglingly childish. It was so mind-numbingly boring, I started contemplating whether I want burial or cremation.

If you love TikTok, that's absolutely fine. It's just. I won't be going there to tempt you here, you can stay there, I think your brain may have died

If you only want to recall your journey for yourselves and share it with friends, then why don't you just use an app like Polarsteps, it does everything you ask, and an added bonus at the end of your tour you can even get a hard copy printed.

"I might try doing tiktok motorhoming, would you sign up to watch this ?" I would. I have no want or desire to watch any other toasted sandwich review, and I wouldnt try to find it.

I presume tiktok is like youtube short videos ? I dont watch the toasted sandwiches on there either so presume I get to choose what to watch and that would be motorhome related content and cycling on disused railway lines and how to find the cheapest way of doing anything.

Give it a go and I ll give it a go. (it is free isnt it?)

I post a little on Instagram but wouldn’t do a piece to camera.

There are a huge amount of Hymer / Sprinter 4x4 travellers who pretty much my target demographic.

I think Instagram is the furthest we could go yes we do, do you tube but like the op it's for us mainly and anyone else after that, we are not professional and don't care about that either. Kids today watch all sorts of imo crappy apps, it never stops. Tick tock etc is not for us.

TikTok is like other social media platforms, it has good point and bad just like on here with the Belly locker. Again like on here you can search or follow who and what interests you, I’m currently following a father and son from Norwich area who are cycling round the world. They also have a YT channel with longer videos which I haven’t watched, the TT ones in my opinion are great without having to watch to much, they are around day 100 and in Kazakhstan just now.
I’d certainly watch motorhome related ones if the content was good and presented in a good way.

I try to stimulate my brain to keep it functioning well. For fun I have MHF. If I want to relax it or turn it off completely I have been known to watch the odd episode of Below Decks with Captain Sandy, she’s great. I don’t want to fry it completely, I did try to see what it was about but decided it was for the young or dumb.

My very limited understanding of it is it will give a short video instead of 200 written words and 15 photos.

I see some tick tock videos on Facebook reels sometimes, only reason I know is it comes up at the end, mostly they are interesting but it might just be the best ones that get onto Facebook

If you search for ones that interest you then you’ll find them interesting if you just scroll you’ll come across a wide range of crap

It’s also good for reviews as long as they’re not getting paid, I’m currently looking for a lightweight bikepacking tent and TT has been great for suggestions and reviews.

I ve just had my first log in on tik tok. I found some motorhome hints and tips that were obvious and yet new to me. Some very pretty scenery in Provence and some videos on cauda equina syndrome of interest to me.

I can see how it would work with motorhomes. I have created a profile of mhfsuavecarve. I may well use it when next on holiday to upload scenery or aires and would presume I can link them to my journals. I dont have any videos on there and I wont be doing it for money

Well. Had to say despite my doubts, I gave it a go. Very easy to edit, get started etc. Posted another to YouTube, early days but only 2 weeks till we set off on our 3 month adventure...

I have to say, we're loving TikTock..

I had my doubts but so many of our friends are using it and it's great for short stuff.
You can post much longer stuff as well,
I'm also liking YouTube shorts for quick stuff.. but I never dreamed I would like Tik Tock as much as I do..
Like most things, I remember everyone saying Facebook was rubbish..
