Rally Thorpe le Soken, immediately after The Bash - 26th May - 2nd June 2025

I like to thank MisterB, Rob and Lee for the organising and running the rally and Curry night very enjoyable, shame I had to leave before end due to previous commitments
Les

There's a pizza parlour on the rally field, but sadly the chef has now finished for the evening ..

Just to let you know now home safe and had to bail out early due to health issues. Most of you were still abed! However..... we have National windscreens booked for Wednesday, did not quite get home unscathed! I will echo Langtoftlads and Les's thanks for all the work put in for the rally

Some of you will be leaving Thorpe to travel to Stowe Maries, as will Rob and ourselves. However Yvette and I will definitely be leaving before quite a few of you, so we will not be able to do a general walk around to check that the rally field etc is left in pretty much the same clean condition it's been all week (thanks everyone), can I ask that those late leavers (check out is 11am) please have a quick look around to make sure it all looks fine, as I'm sure it will be and will the last to leave please turn the lights out and shut the door behind them .....

Thank you,

The Management.....😁😁

Check in at Stowe is NO earlier than 2pm !!

Chocy boy as you've just read the post, looks like your op went well?

Yesterday's haul from the intrepid octet detectorists 😂😂 as advised by Paul, we need to put them away in case they go rusty! 🤔😂.

Well, what a week so far ..... This is some of the things we've learnt...

You may recognise some of these people ...

1 Don't go for long walks in farmers fields in totally the wrong direction, farmers in Essex have shotguns and they're not afraid to use them ...
2 A walk that should take an hour shouldn't take four hours
3 Coffee grounds are named confusingly, they should be kept in jars or packets and not actually on the ground (or furniture)
4 Commercial vehicles coming onto Grange Farm are often met with a hostile reception
5 Keys to open bicycle locks should be carried with you when you actually ride your bike and need to secure it.
6 Rally marshalls often have dual roles as motorhome mechanics (and carpet/upholstery cleaners)
7 Inflating an air windbreak takes at least 8 men, 1 to pump, 7 to nod and offer pearls of wisdom and one wise woman who has the sense to point out there are probably more valves that need closing before it can actually inflate
8 Scrap metal costs more to find than it's actually worth, but this time next year Rodney.......
9 You can't get a warm scone after 3.45pm in parts of Essex.
10.A love child will often sikh out their birth mother in the most unlikely places
11 Pizzas are best eaten hot, even if it means parking up your mode of transport because the battery is running out and then having someone drag it back to your camper, while you pretend to limp ...😁
12 Marshalls should never believe what the organiser tells them, even if he puts it in writing
13 If you can't eat a full curry, you can always take it home with you for the next day and the day after and the day after that ....
14 Amazon has now re-sited it's main office and distribution centre in Thorpe le Soken
15;Good things come in small packages, even if they're the wrong things
16 Some Funsters think 3D printing is witchcraft - and those practising it should be burnt at the stake, I say those stood watching it with glazed expressions are today's Luddites
17 Electronics can be very exciting for one in a million, he just happened to be on our rally and apparently electronic porn is actually a thing ...
18 Knitting reduces the chance of electronic porn addicts being harmed with long pointy needles by their partners
19 Some people have bigger ones than others in the 'QUEST' for shelter ...
20 Lorry drivers bringing in frozen peters from Holland is how the people smuggling gangs may have started
21 Living within 200 yards of three ex wives is not the best of places to live

If I've missed any mishaps or misdemeanors at the rally, please feel free to add .....but please no knife twisting, it's all in jest !!
If you recognise yourself, don't blame the messenger ....... You did it !!

You can vote for your favourite 'mishap' at WeLoveThorpe.com ......or send £5 in a brown paper envelope, to be delivered at a railway station close to our hearts for all the names to be revealed...

And yet someone expects certain people to br attending and volunteering next year, let alone to be volunteered at a follow on meet :whatthe: :blusher: :tounge:

Don't tell them your name Pike ...

I’ll admit to no 13 - but I defy anyone to say a curry doesnt taste better, fried up the next day! 🤣

We’ve had an absolute blast Dave.

I think we did most of your recommendations, keeping the best till last. A drive to Brightlingsea, and the foot ferry to East Mersea today.

Finishing off in the social club tonight, before our drive home tomorrow.

We’ve stood on London Bridge at Beaumont Quay, been to the Haywain and Flatford Mill, Clacton, Walton on The Naze, Frinton and Colchester.

What a lovely area it is - we haven’t paid to park once - the South West could learn a lot from the South East!

Thanks for a lovely week and I hope you all enjoy your follow on, follow on meet next week!

22 Don't forget to have a set of your van keys in an accessable place, just in case yours are in your locked van and you don't have a contortionist handy.

Id forgotten that one, 😁😁😁😁
Though the skill set some Funsters have to enter a fully locked vehicle might suggest a misspent youth, if they can remember that far back ....🚓🚓

Although perhaps their experience was gained scrambling inside chimneys to clean them, the way he contorted his body to slide through the locker to reach the window handles ....

Home, van emptied, washing on.

Just wanted to say thanks again to Dave and Yvette for a lovely week.

Thanks to Lee and Rob for marshalling so happily and to everyone else for your lovely company.

See you all in a field somewhere (probably Hereford or Drax)!

Next year I think you should be nominated as the official tour guide, considering the number of places you managed to visit ....😁😁😁

If anyone wants to stop over an additional night or two, it's not an issue but you will need to go to the office to arrange and pay. It will be £26 per night inc EHU, no option not to have EHU

For those moving on to Stow, I have added some updated info on the Stow thread.

For those moving on to pastures new, thank you all for your kind words of support throughout the week and special thanks to Rob and Lee, without whom we wouldn't have been able to hold the rally.

Safe travels and keep those wheels rolling ...

Dave and Yvette
