Since 2011 (so a bit of a newbie)
Wife and I wanted to get away to Europe to escape any upcoming October lockdowns in the UK.

We were initially thinking Spain, but wondered what all you guys and gals thought.

Ideally, we want somewhere that isn't like a zombie mask hell, but at the same time is safe and welcoming.

Don't mind ferry or tunnel, warm or cold.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Feels safe here in Benicassim but masks must be worn on the site (not on your pitch) and in the street and shops..No need in bars and restaurants,,Hand wash everywhere.BUSBY.

France is unlikely to have any campsites open now but Aires should be available although urban legend suggests some may be barred to discourage travellers bringing infection.

As you live in a Covid hot-spot anywhere but here please. :)

Until a couple of weeks back our little town of Ilkley was covid free and had been for a few months, but I think we've now got at least two or more positive cases.

Luckily, we're 12 miles away from Bradford and 15 miles from Leeds. They're both proper hotspots. Hopefully hotspots of cases though, and not of anything involving hospitals or, heaven forbid, anything more serious.

I think there was a death at Airedale last week. The first since July I’m lead to believe. This is the problem with the post code restrictions even Settle has a BD post code. It’s best part of forty miles from Bradford.

Looks like central Europe is best at the moment.
Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Baltics and Greece

Keep out of the West and the East
UK, Denmark, France, Spain

Spains infection rate will start dropping significantly very soon, their 7 day rolling infection rate is at about 4,000 average per day on worldometer
Their 14 day infection rate is at 320 ish on the ecdc site
Another few days and they lose their 12,000 daily figures to be replaced by lesser ones of around 4,000 so will drop to 100 in about a week (if they carry on as they are atm)
They still need to drop to around 1,000 a day for a fortnight to get back in our good books but they are heading in the right direction.

We're in Spain and they seem to have it right. In open spaces wear a mask

Did they get it right? - look at the figures

The virus will run its course - we cant stop it

Get on with life !

..if you think wearing a mask helps - do it - I don't - but will - just to make others feel safer..

Germany req 14 days quarantine if you wan to go there ( north of England on their red zone list) Italy requires 14 days quarantine if go by tunnel or use any ports on northern france coast to get to continent, the noose is tightening.........

I have just come down slowly from Calais to Perpignan using Aires (or free parking) and had no problem. Park4Night does flag up municipal Aires that are currently closed due to Covid. Obviously it is crowdsourced so only as accurate as the crowd. But as I say I have found no problem with Aires. Campsites are now off season of course. But as I say I have found no Covid problems.
BTW a welcome trend on the way is open-air laundrettes in occasional big supermarket car parks. I use them where I would not use an indoor laundrette right now (69 years old and on chemo).

I think you’re okay in southern Spain. I was listening to Talk Radio Europe this week and they reported 44% of all Covid cases in Spain are in the Madrid area yet Madrid only accounts for 14% of the population of Spain (which is quite a damning statistic). We’re getting out quite a bit in the van and this week we’re heading to Mojacar then moving further south probably down to Roquetas. Over the last few weeks we’ve found all the sites we’ve stayed on are quiet as the snowbirds just aren’t coming and also the level of cleanliness has been spot on. So please don’t discount coming into Spain.

Been in France and Spain for 3 months no problems if you're sensible and avoid busy areas. Easy in a motorhome. Safer than being at home mixing with friends and family or work. Also people follow the rules in Spain more than at home. Heading to Portugal today where numbers are still under a 1000 a day and deaths for the whole pandemic have been really low.

We are in Greece (albeit currently on a boat but soon to be back in the motor home) and numbers are low. Even on the 6 “hotspot” Islands which have been identified as requiring q14 in the U.K. after visiting.
Masks are always worn in enclosed areas but rarely in the street, restaurants or outside seating places.
In a couple of weeks time we will be making our way to the U.K. via Italy, France, and Germany. Currently that will mean we don’t have to isolate on our return (as we will be self contained and not stop whilst in France) but who knows what the rules will be by then.

We’re booked for Spain next month and the friends we have spoken to that are there feel safer than here because masks and SD is taken much more seriously apparently.
People keep saying things like that but I reckon wearing masks etc distancing is great but the risk of coming into contact with covid has to be higher if you're in a high covid rate area. I think people are making up reasons to feel safer we know someone who just got back from Tenerife she said it was great all measures in place loads of cleaning flight half empty. But what would she have done if it wasn't?, What happens when you realise the flights crowded and the tranfer bus is worse.
It's different if you have a high covid rate at home or work to an extent your stuck with it but at least you have local knowledge know where its likely to be crowded and if there are increased measures largely it's not a big deal. If people decide to take a risk on a holiday as long as they isolate properly when they get back that's up to them but all this its safer than here but it's on the high risk list doesn't seem that plausible to me unless there's a local bit with lower incidence.

Question.
Is the site Bonterra Park very busy?? Leaving to Spain tomorrow for a few weeks.
Remember last year was only a few pitches left this time of year.
It's a nice clean campsite, have stayed there many times.

We have spent a week at Roses, a week at Salou, and so far we both think that we are very less likely to get Covid than when we were back home.
It’s certainly a lot quieter than it was last year which tbh is much preferable to us, no queues, no pushing past anyone and more or less everyone doing what they should with regards masks and s/distancing.
Moving on every week, Alcossebre tomorrow then Benicassim, Guadamar, Horadada before settling down for the winter in Benidorm.
My advice is get out of the UK as fast as you can if your thinking about it, or you may not be able to.
Have a safe trip

We’re going to a site we’ve been to for the past three years with people we know. The rate of infection in the small town is very low. Who mentioned flying? Who mentioned crowded transfer bus? Who mentioned work? Apart from shopping we’ve been isolated since March in a very very small bubble and intend on keeping it that way. If you don’t want to spend the winter in the sun like we do that’s fine but don’t knock our well thought out plans.
