We arrived in San Sebastián , N.Spain nearly 2weeks ago on route to Valencia area . Partly to meet friends and enjoy some sunshine. After 3 days of rain and red dust from the Sahara I climbed onto the roof to clean the solar panels , the dust had turned to a slippery film of red clay . The weather reports coming from our friends helped us decide to come back into France and explore the west coast starting at Bayonne we are now at Mimizan next stop Biscarrosse .
Really enjoying the sunshine and days out on our push bikes .
Can anybody recommend any areas north of here , coastal or inland . We have 4weeks left before catching the ferry , but don’t want to get too far north , too early . We do like cycling besides rivers and canals ( bit easier on our creaky knees ) . :giggle::giggle:
Cheers .

We enjoyed staying amongst the famous vines at St Emillion and did lots of cycling there. We also camped on the outskirts of Limoges and bussed it into the town for some excellent sightseeing. We camped in Bordeaux and got the tram into the city, very well worth a visit. These are not too far north from where you are now. 😊

When we lived on the coast in Murcia we used to dread the Sahara sand coming and having to hose down the full house! I got similar brown dust last weekend at York & it reminded me at the time of the current weather in Spain ☹️

The Marais Poitevin, north of La Rochelle is a fascinating area of waterways and canals to cycle. When you get further north, if it is not out of your way to the ferry, the Nantes to Brest canal has many nice stretches to cycle. There are also some excellent disused railway lines in Brittany converted to cycleways. You will struggle to find them on the internet, but local i's often have maps.

Lovely sunny day in Wexford on the S East coast of Ireland

Had similar a few years ago in Salou. The roads down to the sea turned into rivers and many underground car parks a foot deep in water. It was so bad they sent a reporter with brand new wellies to broadcast from the washed away beach.

The French section of the EuroVelo 1 cycle route, La Vélodyssée runs right through that area. It’s broken down into sections on the website, so it’s possible to dip in and out of it to suit.

Could be a result of all this climate change we keep hearing about...would actually make sense...when was the last time we have had a prolonged white/freezing winter in the UK compared to our childhood.... so makes sense with a warming planet the best weather enjoyed by Southern European countries over the last decades starts to move North.... the UK will benefit and Southern Europe will become more extreme.... standby for more crazy temperature extremes in Spain for the summer.. there is a reason more and more vineyards for example are cropping up across Southern parts of the UK..

Is it best for warm weather to do 90 day tour around Spain October, November and December instead of January, February, and March ? Just to shorten our probably not so good weather October to March months

Love to give a accurate reply...but weather is weather...I would go for the end of the year which is an extended Summer/ Autumn... where January February and March is winter....but could be better or perhaps worse, this year has caused a few problems, the worst we have experienced for prolonged unsettledness....next year could be better, because it couldn't be any worse, there again it could be.....What was the question....😀👍🇪🇦

Royan/St Palais/La Tremblade. You can even have a little ferry trip across the Gironde.
Yes, opposite Royan is a lovely town called Soulac sur Mer....... not changed since the 70's, a bit further up from Royan..... Fouras, then St Gille...... not sure if you don't want to go further N due to getting the ferry back from Spain....... if so back South to A la Cote at Messanges...... our favourite...... depends on your taste, there is a lot to chose from, but, France is a lot more expensive than Spain.

Raining in Cahoors at the moment, but sunny later. Then sunny for a couple of days. Arrived here from La Rochelle. Booked a couple of days on Riviere de Cabessut. Hopefully find some put in places on the Lot. Then on to the Cele river for more of the same.
Mike.

If you are heading up towards Royan, give La Palmyre a go, one of our favourite places in France, choice of two Aires, great beach and excellent cycle path network, good Zoo there too if that’s your thing.

Should have headed north to Scotland Lenny
Have had sun virtually every day and just a few showers
Been walking and cycling every day in the most beautiful countryside.

Was thinking about going to Spain but Scotland is half the distance
