surge protector

Just had a lot of work done on my combi 4E boiler and engineer suggested an electrical surge may have caused damage to the pcb, I asked whether he thought a surge protector would be worthwhile when plugged in at home, he thought it may be a good idea.
Any thoughts out there or do you have one?

Circuit boards usually have MOVs on them if they are of any quality.

If a surge protector is the solution you need to take it wherever you plug in for hook up do you leave the heating turned on when at home? I would have thought if heating turned off it would not be affected

A surge protector is for mains the Combi pcb is 12v the only mains are heating elements is you have the mains option. They would be switched by relays on the pcb but the would isolate them from the 12v side.
