Hi,
Please can the technically minded just check I'm right in thinking that a Honda Eu10i would be suitable to work with Ctek M200 battery charger (15a max) just to charge 2 varta onboard batteries ( the 95 amp ones)
Appreciate your help
Nikki

I would think so. The Genny output is 220/240 Volts and should be OK with the CTEC. Just check the specs !

Yea that's the problem, I'm not too bright in that department, and can't find or work out how many amps is produced by the genny:unsure::(

The genny will probably be 900 watts continuous.
900w ÷ 240v = 3.75amps

But thats more than enough to run your charger.
The chargers output is 15amps at 12v but the input may only be 1amp at 240v or even less.

I'm no expert with battery chargers but, my Honda Eu generator has a 12v charging point built in although I've never used it, I do have the cable, leads & crocodile clips.

Is there a reason that you don’t connect the generator to the MH with a normal hookup cable and use the onboard charger?

That is exactly what I'm going to do!

If your two 95 amp-hour batteries are 50% discharged, you will need to supply 95 amp-hours of charge to fill them up again. Your CTEK charger is charging at 15 amps, so it will need 95/15 = 6.3 hours to fill up your batteries. Probably more like 7 or 8 hours actually, because the amps reduces when the batteries are about 80% full.

The CTEK charger at 15 amps will be consuming 12 x 15 = 180 watts,or probably just over 200 watts allowing for inefficiencies. So, to summarise, the generator will be putting out 200 watts for nearly 8 hours. That's one reason why using a generator to charge batteries is not the best solution.

A better solution would be a charger of 38 amps, which would fill up the batteries in about 3 hours. It would be consuming about 500 watts, which is still well within the capacity of the generator. Charging at more than 38 amps would not be good for two 95Ah batteries.

Brilliant info thanks autorouter
I see your point exactly, and agree if I were going to let the batteries get that low that a bigger charger would be in order, but this will be for regular topping up of them , not waiting till it's too late so to speak
