Obviously if you are full time in a motor home, then staying healthy is important, so what are your tips? I'll start with my thought on oral hygiene.

I don't add sugar or sweeteners to anything, and I avoid cakes and chocolate. I brush my teeth with baking soda every few days, but take care not to overdo this, as it is an abrasive, and excessive use can remove your enamel. There is an old joke - "q. How did you get on at the dentist? a. My teeth were fine, but I had to have a gum removed. " Bacterial infection can be a major cause of tooth loss and pain. A salt water rinse and gargle every few days kills a lot of the bacteria, and keeps your mouth fresh.

I add grated turmeric to quite a few things. It messes up the grater ,but I like it in the food. Ginger is another healthy addition.

I drink a lot of coffee as a result of visiting too many McDonalds and KFC for the free WiFi and electricity. ( I've just charged my spare leisure battery ). I often add a pinch of baking soda to a black coffee, and this helps to neutralise the acid in the coffee, and reduces reflux.

I just eat and drink all that’s supposed to be bad but taste the best and just exercise to feel better

Just found out that I have to take tablets for my diabetes☹ I asked if I could just cut out sweet things No ! ! you are too far gone but your PSA test was fine.

I read if you go down to 600 calories a day your body recovers naturally ?

I'm 77, and I don't take any pills, supplements or vaccinations, and I don't seem to get colds or other illnesses. I'm a great fan of john Bergman, and here is his take on diabetes,

Forget pills, potions, supplements etc. etc. Avoid "fast" foods that have far too much added sugars and fats.

Our grandmothers knew best - eat as good as you can afford quality food, properly prepared in moderate amounts with as much variety as possible. Include meats and a small amount of fats but plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables - this was of course all we had to eat in her day, but we were always healthy. Alcohol is good for you, in moderate amounts.
Get enough proper sleep and regular proper exercise. Avoid overheating your domicile, especially the sleeping area. Also, if you can, avoid getting into stressful situations although a little bit of stress is not unhealthy.

Sorry, Richard and Ann but I hate that phrase "in the news" - publishers are in the business to sell newspapers, not provide health advice (or impartial political views, that's why I refuse to read them). Same goes for "health experts" - it's easy to get opposing views on almost any subject, including health.

For peace of mind have regular health checkups - but with a "good" lifestyle you'll not need anything and will go on for years.

Sadly it's the environment and being pushed towards all the very tasty & convenient, but otherwise of poor nutritional value, foods that IMO cause all the problems.

So this mans doctorate is in holistic medicine and chiropractic, don't think i'm going to take his advice over a diabetic specialist

The important thing is to do your own research. You'd do it if you were buying a new car, and your health is more important. The greatest problem is in discovering the real facts. For example, vaccination information seems to be based on very short term surveys. It is only now that the evaluation of results over periods of eight years and more are surfacing, and the results are frightening.

Farming and food production have changed considerably over the last few years. The move to corporate ownership of farms has resulted in field consolidation and monoculture. This increases production and profits, but it deprives the land of minerals, and these have to be added with fertilisers and supplements. These are designed to maximise profits, and not the health of consumers.

Another problem is the shift to allopathic where doctors treat the symptoms and not the diseases. Just reflect on the number of doctors who prescribe pills for high blood pressure, and don't bother to try to find the cause. Most doctors seem to gain their information from pharmaceutical propaganda, and not from traditional training.I have several friends who have become vegetables after being admitted to hospitals for minior problems, The treatment seems to be based more on your wealth rather than your health. If uou are poor, they kick you out fast enough. If you are rich, then they keep you in care, and pump you full of pills while they leech from your estate.

Statins are the most profitable product that has ever been created, and they have killed millions of people slowly. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that they have ever cured anybody either. In fact they inhid the production of mesenchymal stem cells, and these are used to rebuild cartilage, muscle cells and macrophages.

It seems that everybody who goes to a doctor for testing, is diagnosed as borderline diabetic. If this is true it is more indicative of a need for a change of diet, rather than a need for medical intervention. I gather the problem is not the sugar, but the way that the body processes sugar, and is probably another result of mineral deficiencies.

Hi Wild Brambles, hope your keeping well.
You have clearly done a lot of reading on this topic and have your opinions.
Certainly your more knowledgeable that me and probably most others on here.
The problem might be that most of your research is done from reading on the internet, which as we all know is occupied by a whole range of cranks and conspiracy theories that present themselves as experts keen to peddle their opinions.
On balance, I'm happy to take the advice of medical experts and my well trained doctor as I don't have the time or inclination to carry out my own medical training.
I appreciate there may be some commercial interests at play but feel that on the whole, good advice is offered.
Certainly the anti vaccination cult that occupies Facebook is causing real problems with childhood illness duce as typhoid and TB. A simple jab can avoid nasty disease.

For good oral hygiene, I'd avoid baking soda and use a good toothpaste and floss regularly.

Are you going to friends or family for Christmas ?

I prefer to evaluate the wide range of opinions that are available on the internet, and to use my own observation and experiences to verify them. The major problem at the moment is the fact that mass media reporting is all based on pharmaceutical surveys and propaganda, and is largely unverified.

If you want to use vaccines, I would suggest that you have a look at the toxins and otherwise that are included in them. Most hospitals, nurses and doctors don't have any idea, so you will have to read the small rtint if you can get it. If your doctor prescribes two different pills, ask him why, and what disease they are meant to cure. The chances are that one of the pills is to counter the adverse side effects of the first, and they aren't actually curing anything, but just suppressing the symptoms. As a nation, we are too trusting of those who appear to have been well educated, and we need to question their opinions and motives more. This applies to banking and government as well.

You should do your own research into your investments, and this includes health as well as financial. Everything you put into your body is an investment in your future health - give it the research it deserves for your future.

I shudder when, as happened with a neighbour yesterday, I'm told they're on "at least a dozen" different tablets every day. For back pain?

Some years ago a friends mother was on a whole raft of tablets, for an illness of some sort, which basically left her a zombie, unable to look after herself and spending most of her time totally unaware of what was going on. Eventually my friend did some intensive research and discovered, unsurprisingly, that most of the medication was to counteract the effects of the rest of it! No tests had ever been carried out either, so he just stopped all the medication. Within days she was a totally different woman, okay she still had some issues, but at least she was able to live a reasonably normal and happy life. We'll never know if doing this shortened her time - but at least she got to enjoy what was left of it and eventually passed away peacefully.

I've said it before, despite their best intentions the majority of the medical profession seem to have the attitude "well it worked for them, let's see if it works for you" without considering the "other" effects. And of course there is still the social attitude that if you visit a doctor you've got to come away "with some tablets" - thankfully the NHS is slowly trying to change this but they're up against the big boys of the pharmaceutical industry who have only the best interests of their shareholders in mind.

I'm not saying that we should ignore the "experts" and indeed agree that we should always investigate something that isn't right, e.g. prostate cancer. But I'll just say, be wary of whatever you are told is good for you.

Get him to see a good chiropractor. A lot of back problems are caused by bad neck posture, or failing to lift heavy items safely. I've picked up complete car engines in the past, but you need to use your legs for the lift, and make sure your back is straight. Hint - it is easier to do this if you use another person, or a hydraulic lift, so I don't recommend it.

Current received wisdom is that over 50 you should take a broad spectrum vitamin tablet a day as your body will not absorb vitamins so well after around this age. You are better off taking one than not.

Well I never knew that, surely that depends on your overall health, fitness and blood test results and health checks.

I thought that if you were fit and healthy then all you did was urinate them out? Regardless of age.

I dont think my doctor is checking for broad spectrum vitamin absorption, also certain drugs can deplete vitamins and minerals. So its surely better to pee them out than be deficient without knowing it. So that's why it's better to take them than not, at least that was the basis of the last advice I read.

I was type 2 and went vegan about the same time I went full time in the van, my last check up the doc ran tests and my diabetes has all but reversed. I'm no longer on any medication and all my vitals are bang on, not even a hint of a B12 deficiency and I don't supplement my diet with anything.
In that time I've been able to go back to boxing training, I'm a kick in the arse away from 60, and found my lactic acid build up is much lower than when I was younger and fighting. I can do 15 hard rounds on the bags with a few rounds of decent sparring with some of the young team (20 odd YOs) and finish with an hour on the weights.
I know veganism isn't for everyone but it has definitely changed my health and fitness for the better

Great stuff, do you not feel weak with your diet when training?

No I've found I've more energy and better stamina than I've had in 20 odd years and I don't get that stuffed tired feeling I got after eating meat and dairy. And as a wee added bonus, my sex life is like a 18 year olds again, maybe one of the reasons I'm crap at relationships

The secret seems to be to stay away from doctors and medication. There is a reason for the fact that the country that spends the most per capita on health care, being the most unhealthy of all the developed nations ( the US ). Apparently over 50% of their population have irreversible damage to their bodies as a result of so called health care. The percentage is even higher amongst kids.
