Has anyone managed to sort out the cab floor area around the small access hatch between the two front seats. Its driving me up the wall, I know they all seem to be spongy underfoot, but ours is really bad. Got a price for a complete new cab floor from fiat, £366.00 and a 7 day delivery to UK. Trouble is I think that even if I go to all that expense it will probably happen again and I would imagine both front seats would have to come out to do the job. I have been looking at the Autotrail solution of a ply cover over the area but still not sure. I looked at loads of vans yesterday to see how bad ours was and it's obviously a design fault as they were all spongy. I mean, how much would it have cost to have a different floor cover just for motorhome converters, or even design and produce an upgrade,
I would buy one if it existed. I think it will have to be the Autotrail solution but if anyone knows a better way please let me know.

It's cushion flooring. Only fitted on top of the range vans ?
Serial though, if that's all you have to worry about, happy days ?

I don't think a new floor would change anything,it's up to the converter to do,or not do anything about it.Some converters carry the hab area floor forward into the gap some don't.

Yeah, I know, thanks

The floor flexes over the hatches to the fuel pump etc. they all do but some more than others and the insulated rubber floor mat makes it feel worse
You could get a sheet of aluminium chequer plate laser cut to fit over the area and lay your carpet on to of that if you are that bothered

Yeah I think that's the way to go to be honest. Unless someone comes up with a solution I'll make a card template and get that done.(y)

whatever you add, just make it easy to remove in case you need access to the electrics or fuel tank

Nearly ALL motorhomes have the same issue. Cut yourself a piece of ply. Sit down with a bottle of wine and chill.
Life's to short to hunt for problems.

Careful with the checker plate - the engine battery is under there on mine!

He is talking about between the seat, but the fuel pump connections are under there.

Hymer's solution.

Don't see that there is a problem, it does feel a little strange but not worth the effort in my opinion, my battery is under there as well.

The battery is in front of the seat only access to the fuel tank pump under there.

Yes you are right, it's only the bit in between the seats that is spongy.(y)

If it bothered me I think I would look at finding some foam that was more solid.

Ah yes, sorry.

Personally it doesn't bother me.

I think it is just a flat piece of lightweight ply that is just screwed down.
If you want me to pop out out to have a look, let me know.

Don’t do anything about it until your foot goes through the hole. No need.

You can lift the hatch and put some polystyrene/other stuff under to support it and the surrounding area, that way it won't flex, just make sure you don't rest it on anything that shouldn't be weight bearing.

Do what we do, have a 'mountain' of dog bedding there, usually with a dog laid on it, so we don't step on it anyway!

A small Turtle mat fits perfectly, reduces the spongy feel and eases sort being tracked through.

This has prompted me to do something about ours! time the folded towels came out and a better job done :)

Job done (y)

That looks better Richard but it looks like half the job is done for you with that stripy stuff.
Rapido though, have a crappy bit of carpeted material between the rubber cab floor transition to the vans main floor about 20cm wide. This fades from swamp grey to a sort of ginger shit colour where the light has faded it at the edges, really looks awful. The whole of that tank hatch thing on our van is open to being trod on and is pretty knackered now.
I'm thinking of hooking the whole transition bit out and really going to town on the whole area, belt and braces. One thing I fancy is to attach some studs to the actual steel floor bedded in position to the right height with epoxy for a solid sheet to actually bolt into (as opposed to using screws) then, putting in a proper access hatch for the tank.
I'm hoping this will look more like it does once its finished than it does now:cool:
