Spare Motorhome keys (Where do you keep them?)

I Used to hide my spare set of keys in the van, but i have since read here that if the van was stolen or broken into, that the insurance company want to see both sets of keys. Makes sense. My new van is keykess entry so the keys are quite bulky. I dont mind being responsible for the primary set of keys, but my delima is what or where do i keep the spare set. For example if we go to the beach and go for a swim, my keys go in a waterproof pouch and stay with me. If we have to carry both sets then, both sets will have to go in the pouch. Any ideas or advice welcome.

For couples, the obvious answer is one set each. For solos it becomes a bit trickier so I suppose the principal keys around the neck on a lanyard, replacing the "Del Boy necklace".

I've 3 sets as well.
One set at home, one set with me and one set hidden behind a panel in the motorhome.
I also have a spare hab door key hidden outside the motorhome ( I'd defy anyone finding it), would need a pair of earplugs as the alarm would go off if the door was opened until I'd retrieved the hidden spare set of keys and disarmed the alarm.

Ask your insurance company if you can keep a spare set in a locked safe. Might involve a locksmith and some breaking and entering but at least you could get back on the road. Some years back I had an insurance policy that allowed this.

Surely that must be allowed anyway. ? We certainly cannot carry around all the keys to all our vehicles all of the time. When in MH, car keys in safe ( mostly!)

In an ideal world, I would have the master set of keys with me and the misses would have a second set or backup set of keys. Unfortunately, with her track record, after losing a full set on the old MH, and this past year another (only other set) on the new MH, I need to come up with another plan.

I do not like travelling abroad, only having one set of drive keys for our baby. Not certain if I will hide a set, or give our 18 year old son a set when he travels with us, but I really need to get the other key programmed off and another one made.

That would be a fairly reasonable assumption from a customer point of view but do you trust your insurance underwriter to make the same assumption.

One set with me
Other set very well hidden inside the vehicle.

Mrs Brains (Non driver) has a spare hab key and there is a blade of a key that will only open one thing on the outside that will give you access. (So even if it was found, it would not open anything obvious) . Alarms will being going off ...

Why not ask Mrs Brains to carry the spare set and avoid the risk that your insurance company will not pay out?

We don't always travel together, also the ignition key is a big lump of plastic.

I guess I should get a 3rd ignition key made up, so if the van was stolen, we still have a pair of keys in our possession to give to the insurance company.
The thief, and whomever he sell the van onto, is unlikely to find the hidden set of keys for a long time.

I have a hab door key hidden on the outside of the motorhome which is not easy to get to. You can't see it and can only just reach it with your hand. Then the van key is hidden in the van and needs some disassembly to get out. Don't know if the insurance would approve, but not a simple job to get them both.

I have.

I've had two vehicles stolen (back in the 90's)
In both cases they wanted two sets of keys.

If we had been unable to produce two sets, they they assume that the thief has the other set, which then opens a can of worm on how they have obtained the other set.

Hence if you have the second set of keys hidden inside the van, you need to get a 3rd set made up as your spare (before you ever need them!)
