The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in Spain is set to implement new traffic regulations targeting the use of the left-hand lane on dual carriageways and motorways, effective next year. These changes aim to enhance traffic flow and aid emergency services.

Key adjustments include strict penalties for not returning to the right-hand lane after overtaking and prohibiting left-lane overtaking in severe weather conditions to keep central lanes clear for emergency vehicles and snowploughs.

Interesting the permitting of motorcycles to use the hard shoulder in queuing traffic (provided that they don’t exceed 30kph). Is that perhaps because filtering is illegal in Spain?

They presently have the power to fine drivers € 200, but have decided they need heavier penalties? Easier to sound tough than to enforce the law I guess.

Like the £500/£1,000 fines for not picking up your dog mess near where I live. At the same time Vienna had a € 27 fine. Guess which place was cleaner :giggle:

The idea of creating a central lane for emergency traffic has long been mandatory in Germany. The idea, on a two lane motorway is vehicles on the inside lane pull over to the right, vehicles in the outer lane pull over to the left, towards the central barrier. Ambulances etc drive up through the gap. I've see this in action and all the drivers know what to do.

It would never work here! :)

I like it when driving in Spain where most drivers do pull in right after overtaking.
