Spain to Italy (1 Viewer)

On Camping Mar Menor in Murcia at the moment, just asking can I get to Italy without tolls? Not yet had a good look just wondered has anyone done this run..

I went from Lake Garda to Barcelona, toll free. think most of Spains motorways are free now so should be fine.
Roads in Italy are atrocious though, believe it or not they are worse than ours.

I avoid motorways as much as possible free or not. If you have plenty of time its more interesting. We also avoided the coast road in France and went over the mountains into Italy, sorry cant remember the road numbers without looking it up but it is definitely possible. We did it about 4 years ago.
I would however use the Spanish AP7 until into France then meander across the bottom of France , Avignon is worth a look before heading over the Alps IMO.

The roads in Italy are terrible, even when you get a straight bit the speed limit is 50kph. Try them by all means but if you've got any distance to travel you'll soon be on the tolls.

We couldn't get out of the place fast enough good luck.

Come off the motorway at Hyeres.

Drive to le lavandou. Just after that is a beachside aire in a little costal town called cavaliere. From there, take the costal road through to la rayol canadel, la croix valmer gassin (near st Tropez) carry on.. the D559 all the way.

We found Italian tolls to be really reasonable, and in a better condition than the major roads!

Get the ferry for about €150 . Well that’s what our friends paid in June.
Then relax and tour Italy.

The A8 motorway from Cannes into Italy which passes all the ‘posh’ places is possibly the most horrible motorway I’ve ever travelled on, non stop tunnels, metal fences obscuring the view, and narrow lanes with all of the worlds worst drivers on it ……i expected it to be fab, but it was truly horrible, so avoid that stretch if you can…….just sayin

On Ribermar camping at the moment, just north of Sagunt on the N340, looks like we are only Brits on here off to Barcelona in a day or two, great value €16 A night all in spotless clean site, happy with that
