Any suggestions as to how I might sort out the door hinge - photos attached.

The largest part of the hinge seems to be stuck to the inner (aluminium?) post. This part of the hinge is connected to the (inner) flyscreen door.

I have tried spraying with WD40 but only succeeded in removing the part of the hinge as can be seen in the second photo.

My assumption is that I have to take it all apart to sort out the inner metal post somehow.

Thanks

I'm afraid spraying it with WD40 was the worst thing you could do,it swells up the plastic bushings which is probably why it is stuck!

If you have no luck the chap mentioned in the first post of this thread should be able to help👍

3 in 1 oil works well on caravan elbee hinges, which look similar to your hinge.

Are you sure about this? I have been periodically using WD40 on all hinges and it seems to loosen them!

Sorry to go on about this, From what I can tell the bushes between the hinge parts are metal also!

WD40 penetrant going to try some of this.

Lubricates to prevent rust and corrosion. Fast-acting solution that quickly penetrates its way into hard to reach areas, rapidly loosening seized fixings, stuck or rusted moving parts. Use on metal, alloys, rubber, plastic and most paints. Highly water-resistant. Withstands temperatures of -20° to 90°C. Releases items that are locked or rusted. Powerful, fast-acting solution which is highly water-resistant. Flip straw down for spray or up for a precise, narrow spray. 360° valve allows for upright or upside-down application.

  • Quickly Penetrates & Releases Rusted Parts
  • Loosens Seized Fixings & Mechanisms
  • Low Surface Tension Formula

It's OK on some plastics but hinge bushes are normally nylon & WD40 makes nylon swell. Loads of Motorhome owners have bu**ered door hinges & steps by spraying with WD40.

Can you warm it up with a gas torch? If its aluminium it will expand lots and free off the pin. Be carful of the plastic bushes

Boiling water is good for heating such parts and unlikely to harm anything, if you are careful.

Don't use WD40 it swells the inserts and tightens them up,
I had the same problem, had to completely dismantle the hinges, ream out the inserts and re-assemble,
Silicone lubricant is best to use,

If it is steel to aluminium there will have been a reaction causing the non rotating bit to seize up.You could try drilling a small hole through the aluminium of the centre part and to introduce some penetrating oil.
