2006 Hymer A Class
Hi everyone
Just joined, trying to get my head around how this all works and this is my first post, well it is if it works.
I'm looking at getting solar panel fitted on our Hymer, can anyone recommend a good company, where currently still in France and back in the UK next week, via Eurotunnel and heading home (North) but dont mind to much of a detour, thanks
Mike

Vanbits at Taunton put a panel on my Hymer. Happy. Also potential discount for Funsters. But they may well have a backlog of work.

Hi
Thanks for reply, Taunton is a bit out of our way. However, will take a look at their site, may still be worth the extra miles.

Got it, great thanks, I'm trying to get a few bits sorted, need my tired awning replacing, solar panel fitting and our Oyster satellite system looking at, got to start somewhere, so thought solar panel first, hopefully on route home

It may not have posted. You only have 5 posts, after that you have to pay your subs. You will find it will be the best £20 you spend on your motorhome.

Been looking at suggested fitters (thankyou) and potential alternatives a bit closer to home, has anyone used Roadpro, they seem to get quiet good reviews

I've only bought from roadpro - they are efficient, have quality kit and you get a discount as a Fun member. Others I know have had fittings done for solar and lithium and they seem to be well regarded

Hi
Thanks for reply, didn't know about member discounts, how does that work

You tell them you are a member of MHF and give them your Funster number. Yours is 85016. To get it just left click on your avatar (the big K in your case) on any of your posts

So I've heard as I want work doing nd he is local, but doesn't return calls.....

It's not too difficult to do it yourself, just ask on here if you are any good at DIY.

I managed mine, still on and working three years later, so can't be that hard (y) ;)
I'm sure it is straightforward but when I look at the wiring on ours it is a mess, and just not sure what is what.

You havnt really got to know what anything else does, just connect your panel to the new controller and then to your leisure battery, nothing else changes.

Is there a list

Using a tablet and carnt see the number. However, written the number down you've given me, thanks for this info, appreciated

We have 420w of panels and even mid summer can only get about 12a going into the battery, I think they have wired through the existing charger which will only give 10-12a max.

It is currently a pwm controller which I want to change to mppt, so I can literally just connect the panels to the controller then straight to battery?

Yes, shouldn't go through anything else.

Obviously you need some fuses , on mine I have them going into controller and again at the battery.

Hello & :welcomesign:

I think your main problem will be short notice.
I don't imagine anywhere [decent] will have availability anytime soon.
Best to get home and research where is best, then perhaps make a trip of it... Vanbitz, for example, have a very acceptable campsite next door & Taunton is in easy reach. Others often let you park overnight on their premises.
