It's baking hot here in Benidorm and it got me thinking how hot the solar panel must be.. Ie very.
There's a tap on our pitch so I got the ladder out and sprayed the solar panel (150w) off for about a minute to cool it off, didn't see any dirt wash off as I cleaned it before we left. Went back to the BM1 monitor and the current had gone up by 0.8 amps and the panel isn't cold now, imagine if you could get it to 10°c.

🤔 I've got to invent a water heater one day that cools the solar panel.

PV panels lose a lot of efficiency as they get hot.

The ones on the roof at home drop quite a lot of output when the weather is hot, very noticeable improved output on a clear cold day in Spring over a hot day in Summer.

Electrical resistance increases with temperature so wlll be more efficient at cooler temperatures.

Apparently in colder climates in the winter, it’s possible to get more power from a solar panel around mid day than you could in the summer.
The figures for the panel output are for a temp of 25° with I think it’s supposed to be 1000w per metre square of solar energy. These figures are supposed to be an industry standered so you can compare different panel makers

By the time the water got to the end of the hose it was warm 🥵
When ypou open our irrigation or drinking water taps outside it is scalding for the first minute.
As too high temps that must mean my solar panels are useless, :giggle:as the surface temperature as measured a moment ago is 57º & they are dusty. Having been cleaned yesterday
