Anyone have any suggestions? My solar panel sometimes doesn’t charge but if I plug into the electric and switch on the charger, just for a few seconds, the the solar starts charging ok. Not much help when I’m in a field. I have an Autotrail Excel 600

Hello and welcome. I don't have a clue unless it's a fuse, your leisure battery or solenoid... My 3 answers to everything. There are some really clever people on here... They'll be along shortly.

Have you checked the battery voltage at rest.... No solar or charger....with a multi/volt meter
It may be the battery is so low the solar controller doesn't recognise it.

Papa John could be right I suggest you test the solar panel.
Either put a meter on the mc4 connectors from the panel on the roof or take out one of the leads from the controller marked solar.
Before you disconnect it cover it with some cardboard or you may get a healthy spark, uncover it to do the tests.
Set your meter to dc on a setting above the nominal panel voltage and see what you get should be in the region of 18v or above.
Then change the red lead to the amp plug and set the meter to dc amps if it will do that you should get above 5amps.
These measurements will depend on what size your panels are of course.
