Hi I have three times tried to sign the petition to complain about the change to motorhome taxes. I have never received a confirmation email to validate my vote. I have filled in petitions to Parliament before and haven’t had this problem before. Anyone else having problems with this. It is so important to protest about the change to the tax.

If it is an official Government petition you have to validate your signature from a link they send you in an email. Sounds like a private petition without a validation process and therefore doomed to be totally ignored.

The tax changes are just bringing motorhomes into line with the existing system for cars so I wouldn’t hold your breath. The pleas of the larger motor car industry were ignored when the system was first introduced so I can’t see any reason why the motorhome industry expects special treatment.

It is a government petition and I click on verify and nothing happens. Just wondering if I’m wasting my time by your comments. ?

A matter of personal choice, my comments are just a personal opinion. However the validation process for official Government petitions always includes an email verification.

That’s my problem, as I go to the government site to vote and this is the fourth attempt at it and I never receive an email to confirm my vote. Will try a different email.

If memory serves, the petition is to prevent the new tax.
IF, and it's a big if, the petition was ever to see a parlementary debate it would be thrown out as the new tax would already be in force by then.
The petition should have been to repeal the new tax, not prevent it.
And its a waste of time anyway, it will never reach 100000 votes.

Petitions DON'T work. Read the small print.........

Government responds to all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures - Thats a lot of MH owners.........................
At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered (NOTE: the use of the word considered) for debate in Parliament - NEVER GOING TO GET THAT MANY SIGNATURES......................

Me thinks that buyers of expensive new Motorhomes can afford to contribute a bit more to society

Just sayin

Thing is your ford fiat etc is a comercial vehicle that has, usually, a plastic wendy house attaced to it. And arguably on average does under 6k miles p.a , you now pay a shed full of tax.

If the same vehicle has a metal tool box attached to the back the tax is a lot less. Oh and it will do on average 60,000k p.a . So more CO2 ETC P.A

And if your over 3500kgs, you pay Less tax than under 3500kg.!!

How much will the new tax be?

I understand that tax now is based on emissions. Campers really do use lots of fuel.

But it's not a new tax. The tax bands have been in place since 2001. Any MH with a MPW of 3500kg or less first registered since that date and having a CO2 figure on its final stage CoC would have been placed in the relevant emissions related tax band.

But because multi-stage conversions weren't required to have a CO2 figure on the final stage CoC, most MHs escaped this (apart from VW factory built campers and a few other exceptions).

What has happened is that, largely as a result of Dieselgate, new vehicle emissions testing legislation requires a CO2 figure to be included on the final stage CoC, so MHs falling within the criteria will be treated as they would have been in the last 18 years in similar circumstances.

And as a result they will attract the supplementary tax if over £40K list price, that has also existed since 2017.

There is no new tax to complain about.

Any frustration should be directed at the new World Harmonised Light Vehicle Testing legislation which is resulting in an already existing UK vehicle tax class having to be applied to new Euro 6D MHs.

That is a battle against Tree Huggers, so good luck with that!!!

Not sure the environmentalists are that keen on it either because it discourages trading up to new lower emission vehicles.

10.5t and £165. I like it, I like it as it is. :gum:

Not sure the environmentalists are that keen on it either because it discourages trading up to new lower emission vehicles.

Which has benefits from the point of view of the reduction in exhaust emissions, but when taken as a whole including the environmental impact of the manufacturing process, resources used and disposal of old vehicles the benefits are not so clear cut.

Have you checked your Junk Mail for the confirmation email? They sometimes go there, even though they’re from a government site...

As Deneb states correctly,THIS IS NOT A NEW TAX
Road tax based on emissions has been around for 18 years and the “over 40k “ tax has been here since 2017
Motor Caravans have been avoiding it on a technicality until now.

Aha. So now folk with expensive campers are paying their due? Same as folk with flash cars.
