You need to clean the gunge off the tank sensors I would think.
The grot sticks to the sensors and they think they are immersed in water.
Be careful as you clean them though as they can be a little delicate.

As Clarky says. I've had success by half filling the tank with water & washing up liquid & leaving it to slosh around for a few miles.
