Hi
When I install my shower tray do I lay it on top of ply lining floor or do I install shower tray on top of some insulation and lay the floor ply lining around it? Seen some videos and I seen both. Is there any benefits. Of either one!

many many years! since I was a kid
if you are using a plastic moulded tray, you need to fit a firm flat base or it will crack. My preference with a home build is to use aluminium chequer plate folded for the sides and welded or sikaflexed in the corners. A much better and stronger finish than a few mm of plastic

I use fibre glass and epoxy to strengthen mine first. I then bond 6mm ply to sides and base.

plenty of the glass fibre matting expecially at any place there are contours edges, corners, plug hole and the lines on the base.

Nice tip. I think I shall look into fibre glass and epos resin. aluminium a nice idea but already got the shower tray! More ideas going in my head now but thanks I'll make sure it's flat and well strengthened
