Shortage of LPG and Calor Gas

Hi

Have you tried this web site, there is an interactive map. I filled up easily last week - Avon Dassett - Warks.

Has anyone else noticed it's getting more and more difficult to get gas .
Are we going to be left without a way to boil a kettle and cook our food ?
There's no doubt that many outlets are stopping/running out of LPG, but using the apps that are available, I've had no problems finding places.

What web site would that be then?

If the OP is referring to LPG then there are a couple of apps. mylpg.eu is probably the best. There is also AutogasApp UK.

Also I find the Facebook group LPG Auto supply UK very useful in finding garages with LPG.

Regarding the OP - I am not sure where you have been for the last year if you have only just noticed a difficulty in finding gas.

Just to add - I had no problem getting Calor at my local hardware store the other day. I also filled up with LPG at a local BP but it was 99.9p a litre!!!!

I also have a nearly full Gaslight bottle so I am sorted for a while! (Panic buying me? Nah!)

Hi

Stupid me - yes I mean to cut and past mylpg.eu - it is updated, I have found others to be out of date :)

We have Safefill. To fill them we go to where the taxis fill. Near us we have Bolton Gas & Bury Gas at .79p/ litre.

6 kg seem to be the ones in very short supply I managed to stuff a 13kg in my gas locker far cheaper per kg than the 6Kg bottles

I find the most up to date web page is filllpg. Be prepared to wait a while for it to load ( and I mean wait a while 😉).

Unfortunately, none of the apps are accurate enough around here (South Lincs, Norfolk..). Morissons have now re-directed all their forecourt phones to a central number due to the number of calls they were receiving asking if they had LPG or not. The central number aren't able to tell you if a garage has LPG or not so the only way to find out is to drive there . Speaking to our local independent garage they are seeing improvements in the delivery of LPG so fingers crossed..

Just collect a few sticks when your travelling around and you can then have a campfire, where allowed, to cook your tinned beans on.

Calor are also stopping there stockists allowing motorhomes being filled with lpg
So it will get even harder going forward

We get ours from a local Tool Hire company.

They stock them for tar boilers etc and , with low turnover, always have some in stock.

Is that something you have been told, are there official facts to support it please? No disrespect intended, I just like verification of news like that

Someone on here but on another thread said they had heard Calor is selling out to Flogas????

I use one 6kilo refillable Gaslow (with external filler socket) and one 6kg steel bottle on a pigtail. Haven't tried to fill up, but it seems to be two thirds full, so not worried. We use sites if out in winter or autumn so heat is from EHU. In summer the only gas we use is for cooking.

I wanted a second 6 kilo steel (for the house BBQ, and as a spare). No local supplier could do one, and they all said that Flogas and Calor were only doing refills. This isn't quite true. If you order direct from the Flogas website, they will send you a new bottle (took ten days).

There are more LPG pumps in Europe than there are here. I notice that there is a LPG pump in the Channel Tunnel Carrefour. Anyone know whether there are shortages in France or Belgium or elsewhere in Europe?

Not sure if this is of any use to anyone, but I recently changed from fibreglass Gaslight to standard Calor bayonet fitting. This means that I have an empty 10kg fibreglass propane bottle and a empty 5kg Gaslight propane bottle. These use the 27mm clip on regulator. I could take them down to Homebase and get £25 refund for the pair, but I happen to know that the current price for a new 10kg bottle is a preposterous £99, yet they refill for £54 (robbers). The 5kg bottle is even worse, at £80 and refilling at £35. Flogas is actually even more expensive than Homebase.

So if these are any use to anyone, and you are in the NW Kent area (SE London, East Surrey etc), you can have them for £25.00 which is the cost of the deposit that Homebase would give me at £12.50 each. You'd then save £32 on the 10kg and £32.50 on the 5kg when you take them down to the crooks to get refilled.

Just PM me and we can arrange a time to drop by and pick them up.

Fleet services were out of lpg last weekend but using the mylpg app we found a few miles away at Cove service station a Shell. It was cheaper too, 79p litre.

Just been to Asda fuel station Derby.
LPG on pump 3 and 4 and 72.7 per litre.
While I was there a range rover and a Morgan sports car both filled up.

Came back from 6 weeks away in France, Spain and Portugal about 10 days ago. No shortages of LPG in any of those countries.

Topped up at Wisbech Morrisons this afternoon @ 79.9p.

However, my Gaslow gauge is next best thing to a guesstamate, and as not topped up for about a year and been away a few times. I managed to get 3.24 litres into the tank, which cost me £2.59:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Edited to add to Steve's comments here that the Range Rover and Morgan had converted to LPG (y) and it was Asda in Spondon, Derby.

Had no problem filling up with LPG on the south coast a month ago, just changed over 2 patio 13Kg bottles yesterday no problem at my local store.

Fleet services were out of lpg last weekend but using the mylpg app we found a few miles away at Cove service station a Shell. It was cheaper too, 79p litre.
I filled up there on Thursday, it was 69.9p per litre. I was on the Southampton bound side of the M3.

That was me...this is the original post from what my local builders merchant told me:

"Been searching for days for a Calor refill, finally tracked one down at a local builders merchant yesterday, £39 for 6kg. He told me Calor are selling the business to Flogas so aren't putting more cylinders into circulation which would reduce their eventual profit. Meanwhile thousands more got bought during Covid which aren't being returned. Hence the shortage! Sounded sensible."

They are only out of date because users do not put information in them. They rely on people, that is you and me, to keep them updated, not the suppliers.
