This one is mainly for those that use sites.
With the pitch surfacing in UK now frequently being a mixture of type 2 aggregate and pebbles, wandering around outside without shoes is non starter, even in the heights of summer. We are looking to find out what other funsters do about shoes.

"Really?" you ask, "What is the problem?"
Well, we don't wear shoes inside the bus, so where do they live so you can put them on just before you go outside? You have the steps area, but you can't keep shoes there, because you trip on them. You could of course leave them just outside the door, giving you the choice of damp or semi-frozen footwear in the morning. You can get the hangy-up things with the shoe pockets, but where can you hang it near the door? A lidded box outside? Yes, but you have to get outside to get the box.

So, although this might seem like a daft, nothingy question, I want to ask the team whether anyone has any really innovative solution to shoe storage, near the door, but not in the way.

We don’t have anything on our feet inside the van……unless it’s winter, then my wife wears slippers.

Flip Flops……tuck them under the step at night. Use them outside anytime of the year. (y)

Crocs for all occasions, stored in the door box.
p.s. although we store our lightweight outdoor coats in there and fall over our shoes which we leave inside the door.

Crocs. Awful things but practical. Use. Then in site showers too. Leave them under the step or just inside the door on the step.

We put a big foam mat down, it's very lightweight and rolls up. You can't feel the stones under it.

Crocs are a must though for straying off the mat and walking to the shower block.

There are some items not allowed in our motorhome world, Plastic drinking glasses, Plastic plates and Top of the list a pair of Crocs.

Crocs for when it's dry and waterproof gardening shoes for when it's wet ( Lidl's finest ) stored in a convenient cupboard by the door.

Our outdoor shoes hang out by the habitat door. This time of year inevitably wet & muddy AND in the way.
In the warmer parts of the year, they’re just in the way/ clutter.
Shoes not in use are in an all weather bag in the cab.

We are always sweeping out the van due to the “French grit” that have at every stop that isn’t grass. Get everywhere. Crocs are great for not picking it as no grips.

Crocs, I have 2 pairs which are kept handy in the waste bin on the door, a rubber pair for showers and a more comfortable pair for day to day.

Walking boots all weathers jelly beans in shoe box in floor as well as wellies and slip on just in case , the pair I am using left by the door to fall over but as its a panel van there' s not far to fall

I find crocs incredibly comfortable (and me with my feet). I prefer the type with no holes, you can get them from Wilko.
As to where to store them, in summer I leave a pair outside the door. Most time they stay dry. I keep a pair of slip-on shoes for driving that stay near the van pedals when parked and can be used to go out if the crocs are wet. All other shoes I keep in the garage. (Crocs get me to the garage for me shoes)
Other than that if i forget the routine we end up with a pile of shoes in the step recess (that's me in the doghouse).

Crocs.
Sod the fashionistas. Be of an an individual mind and don't follow the herd. In any case they will be fashionable soon - just wait long enough.
I have multiple pairs but be aware they the cheap one form will known discount shops may shrink and become brittle when exposed to strong sunlight, just as most plastics do. Luckily when mine shrink, they are the right size for Swmbo. Multiple pairs are useful because I can never remember where I leave them.
(ps The ladies tell me that bellbottoms/flares are coming back into fashion. Shame I got rid of my wedding suit years ago))

We have a nice handy cupboard next to the door, but still end up with shoes under the table (me) John has crocs I have flip flops, they live under the van next to the step, have one of those artificial grass looking door mats outside so can step on that to get to the outdoor shoes. We do however sometimes wear shoes inside, shock horror, we have a couple of rugs over a vinyl floor, we often keep our shoes on at home, says she sat with her usual bare feet.

I left my crocs near the heater outlet a few years ago and when I tried to get one on I was confused... Hmm.. Must be Ann's croc I thought🤔.. Oh wait Ann hasn't brought hers.. Really confused now, I must be imagining it, trying harder to get it on 🤨.... No, there's no way on earth my foot is going inside that croc 😂.

Then it dawned on me  the heater was on earlier and had shrunk it 🤣

Def crocs, but the “crocs for work” which are cheaper and don’t have the silly holes in the side. They live inside in the footwell/step up just inside the hab door, leaned up on their ends out of the way.

The OP surely wouldn’t blister if they were only used for pottering about by the MH or nipping to the site shop?

My feet blister just by being in the same parish as the b@st@rd things ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:

However, Mrs DDJC has just told me to stop being such a drama queen and buy some with lining. I have naturally pointed out that they then can't get wet, which defeats the object of crocs.

Anyway, I am still focused on storage-by-the-door solutions, rather than choice of shoe. I normally use ten quid canvas deckies or Skecher slip-ons.
