At the risk of starting the equivalent of an ”anchor thread” on a boat forum, I’d really appreciate funsters’ experience and advice on having a self-levelling system fitted. I know I’d like one, but which one?

I’ve looked at various options, including E&P, Ma-VE, HPC, Amplo, VB, etc., and they all pretty much seem to offer the same. The prices also seem to be fairly similar, so I suppose it comes down to quality, ease of use, reliability, transferability and service from the installer.

Are there any pros and cons to consider with each make? I guess I‘d prefer to buy just once and be happy, so what’s the verdict folks?

I think you can discount VB as that is suspension not hydraulic levelling, E&P are good and loads of systems fitted by quite a few dealers around the country, we are on our second E&P system as we left it on the last van when we sold and specced it on the new one, it could come down to how far you want to travel to have the system fitted and any service work that may be required.

Don’t tell icantremember  but I am interested in the pros and cons of each system as well

MA-VE for us and works perfectly with good after sales service. Three year Europe wide call-out warranty

We've had the Amplo system fitted by Towtal. Good kit all made (not assembled) in Italy. Towtal are the sole importers and are in daily contact with the factory. Good aftersales service and overnight stop available at their workshop. Free courtesy car as well. Also offer 5% discount to CAMC members. Recommended.

Thanks all, so far. Is the Amplo system only fitted by Towtal? We live in Devon but I’d build a trip around getting it fitted up North if necc. I see a lot of folk use SAP at Doncaster, but there must be an E&P option closer to home? Ma-ve also looks possible in other areas?

HPC from AS in Warrington 👍
My advice would be look very closely at each system regarding the materials used, quality and modernity of systems involved. Watch as many YouTube reviews as you can.
Ask question after question until they are all fed up with you.
You then become much more informed and start to realise some of the companies have little idea.
After months of doing all this I came down to E&P fitted by SAP in Doncaster or HPC fitted by A S in Warrington.
Some fitters tried to to claim systems as their own, rather than just fitting.
Chose HPC and very very pleased I did after learning even more about other systems afterwards.
In the end it’s your money and your choice of what system and who you choose to trust fitting it.
I wouldn’t and didn’t choose on convenient location, choosing to stay in that area and make a break of it.

Sorry but VB air assist or Active air for us . The VB system not only self levels but firms up when cornering . It Tilts to empty the grey water tank plus it can be used to either raise the front or rear end when draining off residual water from the roof .
See the Video and let it make up your mind.
The hydraulic system is brilliant dont get me wrong. However...Its only useful if stationary!!

We had the HPC system fitted by https://www.as-airsuspension.co.uk/ when we bought our current moho 6 years ago and have had absolutely no problems with it since. I particularly love the phone app allowing operation of the jacks from the driving seat as soon as hand brake is applied.

We also have AS rear air assist and have done on 3 motorhomes over 14 years .. have always had great, frienly service from Cath & Phil .. Highly recommended.(y)

P.S. If DuxDeluxe wasn't such a miser he could also have the luxury & convenience of HPC hydraulics.

Is that the wonky one Brian? 😉

Our new to us MH has E&P self leveller system and VB air assist on rear axle, both fitted by SAP Doncaster. The good thing with E&P system is, if the ground is to unlevel for Auto mode, you can use it in Manual mode.

This is our first experience to self levelling systems so unable to compare with other flavours.

Look at the Tesa Autolift 4. Much cheaper, electric not hydraulic, but each leg will lift 2 tonnes.

The HPC can be manually set too. From all the reading on this there is probably little to choose between EP and HPC

We have E&P levellers with VB Air too. Both fitted at SAP in Doncaster.
Both systems work together. Would highly recommend both, or E&P on its own.
We transferred the E&P from our previous motorhome & because the chassis on our Le Voyageur is an Alco AMC, we had the VB Air fitted to ensure we had the clearance for the E&P.
Definitely worth the distance traveled up to Doncaster to SAP

Does the VB system also level you out when parked up? I see some people have it as well as E&P.

Yes Towtal at Longton are the only Amplo installer.

We have VB 4 channel full air and E&P jacks, the VB has limited levelling capability but I have not used it for such, I just push the button on the E&P control and it drops the VB air to its lowest setting allowing the hydraulic jacks to make the van level.

Hi there . Yes you have a remote that has Auto level setting. Just press when you park up and it's done for you. There is also a service setting which locks the vehicle in a position until switched off. Personally I would have both. Only because the Vb system can only work to its limits on the air rams. The hydraulic system is seriously excellent for levelling when the ground is more than the Vb system can handle.
Ours cost £7k . But worth every penny. Especially when driving ..

Has anyone tried the Al-Ko HY4 system. It seems a bit different with independent hydraulics for each wheel and I believe it can weigh the vehicle too, so that you can check your loading and axle loads.

We had the Amplo system fitted last year and find it perfect.

What was amazingly lucky for us is that we live in a village south of Maidstone and the installer had their workshop only THREE MILES from us 👍👍👍👍👍

As far as I know, they are the only installer other than Towtal and they stay in constant communication with them. (Our install was actually delayed by a month because their dedicated fitter left and they needed to send a mechanic to Towtal on a 2 day training course).

After much deliberation and indeed a fair bit of research I had E&P levellers fitted to my first MoHo, the best bit about the MoHo was the levellers!!! (A long story it was all about Burstner and Fiats gearbox or should that be jukebox!). Anyway a few months ago I had E&P levellers fitted on my new MoHo. On both occasions I used a company called Courtside Conversions based in Tiverton, (I live in North Devon) an old school workshop and in my opinion a hidden gem of a company. Call Ester Roberts on 01884 256048.
It should be noted that I am not connected in anyway, shape or form to Courtside just my honest opinion.

We have E&P and in general are happy with it but it does seem if you are on ground that is 1% out of horizontal it will not allow you to use automatic mode and you have to manually level.
Great to lift wheels off ground for maintenance and to get water off roof when washing it.

Thanks for the tip kevster. That would be so much easier. I’ll look them up. (y)

Will do. Just have to reach final agreement with the co-pilot!
