We had a 31 ft Winnebago and loved it, but, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to sell it. Then we bought a fifth wheel.
A 30 ft Holiday Rambler trailer, single slide out, with a Dodge Ram tow truck. It gives us masses of room inside, with all the amenities of a rigid RV, and the benefit of having a truck to run around in with six belted seats. It tows easily, and can be set up in minutes. At a combined length of 44ft, the cost from Portsmouth to Santander last September was £649 one way. We have priced up ~Dover to Calais, and can get that for £69 one way. ~The truck runs on LPG, so not too worried about the running costs. We have wild camped in Portugal and Spain, as well as staying on some small Aires, and some super camps. We have never booked any sites, and have only on a few occasions been too large for access.
At the moment, it suits us perfectly.

all I would say is do not burn your bridges , keep somewhere in the UK to come back to. We know so many people, both full timers & people that have sold up & moved abroad, who sold their houses and now want to return to the uk but cannot afford to due to house prices or not being able to get a mortgage now rules are so strict. You would be better off remortgaging your house to buy a van & renting your house out to pay for it or selling & buying a static mobile home as a base.
